Well first let me say this: this campaign is still developing, mainly testing out the process. Though I type out the general adventures as I progress. Also I'm using *7.5e for this and just a quick 'character sheet' is attached in this post. Now, the adventure for my Jungle Troll Scarr starts kinda cliche. He wakes in a hut with other young aspiring Barbarian trolls aspiring to pass their Rite of Passage. The tasks for their Rite of Passage followed as such: - Lift a 200lbs (2000wu) boulder, carry it 15 yards and toss it off the edge of a cliff. In order for this to be complete, I rolled to make a Level 5 SR for STR. He succeeded greatly and launched the boulder clean off the cliff (+50 AP; 140 worth of gold). 2 others passed, 1 stumbled off the cliff while holding the boulder and one was unable to even lift the large rock.
- Venture into the jungle to find a Jaguar (Level 1, MR 40), engage in combat and kill the jungle cat, bring the cat's body back to the village for proof. While walking through the green foliage,
Scarr was ambushed by the cat. It dealt 21 damage to him, bring Scarr from 39 CON to 21. When Scarr attacked he was able to kill the Jaguar with one hit, assuming his split the cat's skull (+40 AP; 140 gp worth earned) with his Common spear. From there he carried it back to his village, they feasted on the Jaguar's meat as celebration, he gained a Jaguar furred Loincloth as a symbol of him passing his Rite of Passage (+40 AP for completion; 200 gp earned). The other two did not come back from the jungle, they were presumed dead.
Afterward Scarr made the decision that he would need a mount of he wanted to travel across the lands (since he now had the right to leave the village now) quickly. First with his money be bought was a leather belt and a belt pouch to store his money in. After which he said his goodbyes and started to head for the nearest city. Which is about a day's walk. So that's where I'm at the moment. There would be more content, but high school is draining all energy. Comments and constructive criticism would be welcomed. * I'm using 5.5e's treasure generator.

That sounds like an excellent start. I look forward to seeing more of this. Just in case it's of use to you, I have created an extended version of the 5th edition random treasure generator, which can be found here. * In a similar vein, zanshin has a random magic item generator here. Random tables are so very useful for solo gaming. * Holy mother of pearl, Batman! I just realised that I posted that generator more than 5 years ago!

Very cool start Omega, I look forward to reading more.
There is a very nice random encounters table in Sword for Hire that may also be worth mining for ideas if you can track that down.

I really like the idea of trials, tasks and challenges with an AP reward. You can build quite a nice story up. Nice one. *exalt*

There is a very nice random encounters table in Sword for Hire that may also be worth mining for ideas if you can track that down. Sword for Hire is available here. And because of you, Zanshin, I just ordered the Corgi double-packed pocket-sized edition. I like what I see so far, Omega. Just so I understand what's going on, it seems like you're running several characters through the same adventure, in order to build up the setting and maybe to compare Scar's exploits with others facing the same challenges. Is that right? Do you have actual stats and Saving Rolls for the throwaway characters, or are these details just narrated? You might enjoy using the Mythic GM Emulator for this type of solo play. You can check out this actual play thread for an interesting account. I thought there was another AP thread (started by Cartomancer, maybe?) but I can't find it. Mythic might throw some curve-balls at you and instigate challenges-- or even entire adventures -- that you hadn't anticipated. I have Mythic and I like it. I think the "how to" text could have been a bit less overblown, but it actually delivers what it says it does. I also use it as a GM sometimes, especially during prep, to create some random events or build more depth into the problems, threats, assets, and rewards. I find it to be a pretty sharp creative aid, when I think to use it. So far I've recommended two things that cost cash money. So here's some free stuff I just found today [via Jim Pacek] that might be useful for you, related to random tables: I haven't yet taken the time to fully digest these, but they look like they'll be rewarding when I do. I'd love to hear more about your goals for this solo campaign. What do you have in mind for Scar and the world he lives in? [Edit: Fix punctuation nonsense.]

Just in case it's of use to you, I have created an extended version of the 5th edition random treasure generator, which can be found here. mahrundl: At a glance, this looks very similar to the treasure tables in M6E (that's T&T Mythical Sixth Edition by Mike Hill, for anyone not savvy to the jargon).

One last thing-- Here's a table I've used to stock dungeons in the old-school style, using 2d6: Die 1 | Die 2 | Room contents | 1-2 | 1-6 | Empty | 3 | 1-4 | Hidden Treasure | 3 | 5-6 | Monster | 4 | 1-2 | Monster | 4 | 3-6 | Monster with Treasure | 5 | 1-3 | Traps | 5 | 4-6 | Traps protecting Treasure | 6 | 1-3 | Tricks/Special Features | 6 | 4-6 | Tricks/Special Features & Treasure |
So if Scar wanders into an underground area, you can use this to randomly generate the contents of each area, then run through it, using the other resources everyone posted to flesh out the details-- give color and character to your empty rooms, tricks and traps, and stock it with meaningful threats and interesting treasure. When you get a Special Feature, you can use logic and imagination to fill in something rational, or use a tool like the Mythic GME to generate something. I hope you find any of this useful! Also I'm using *7.5e for this and just a quick 'character sheet' is attached in this post. I couldn't find the character sheet, but I reckon it might have gotten lost in transmission.

And well it should. I submitted it to a certain J. "that guy" to publish in the Hobbit Hole, back when his more nefarious dealings had not come to light, and was rather surprised to find that he had assumed that he could put it into M6E as well. Mike (aka Hogscape) was editing M6E, and was unaware of the lack of consultation here. (I hold him blameless in the matter, by the way.) That summary may leave out a few details, but it's broadly correct. There was a thread about it here somewhere as well. So yes, it's very similar, and for good reason.

My magic treasure table is also available as a pdf from Hogscapes excellent site at sites.google.com/site/hogtunnels/downloads-1?AuthEventSource=SSOGlad to inspire Gaptooth to get Sword for Hire. It is a superb solo and the random encounters are a nice bonus. I'll also pimp trollszine, the free zine for T&T as a potential source of many ideas, items and monsters. Randy Whitley's article in number 2 listing various adventure start points amy also come in handy.

Is that right? Do you have actual stats and Saving Rolls for the throwaway characters, or are these details just narrated? Well kinda, I made a 'PC' character for a female friend of mine, but I'll be controlling the actions of her character. For the monsters having Saving Rolls? Only certain NPCs or Monsters will have full stats.
