After returning to Baxan, it became clear to Thurgood and the Old Men of the town that the Ban imposed by the gnome spirits was not one to overcome. Disgruntlement over this state of affairs was soon supplanted by the news of the Inevitable End. When riders came to Baxan with the news, the village was thrown into chaos. Many of the tensions there between the families of the place were exacerbated, and several parties have formed:
(BTW: this listing is not complete yet - the idea here is that there are groups you could try to attach yourself to if you wanted to, or could compose a group from the 'unclaimed' - unless you wanted to stroll through the Portal unaccompanied!
Feel free to ask any/as many questions as you'd like in the meantime, should have a complete listing of all the 'factions' up over the weekend. Bear in mind also that these are options - if you have no interest in any of these Baxaneers, you are free to act otherwise! Like summoning your army of rats! Or "camping" at the Portal to see what options present themselves there...)

Hmm, OK I do have a few questions.
I assume that orders come in a couple of different varieties right?
Specific or Micro: Like standard T&T actions, in detail and in "Real" game time?
General or Macro: Orders that might take days or even weeks to carry out and could well take place while other specific actions are being taken?
Secondly Thurgood will likely look for a group with cattle and at least a few horsemen, he'll look around for a cooper ( barrel maker ) and a tanner to add to the group he is in if he can find any unattached.
Thirdly and I know this sounds weird, but considering how the group is going to be dropped in a random temperate location it just came to me.
No one is left in the mannish town of Rukspek right?
So no one would object if Thurgood took a group of men with tools and disassembled a bunch of the better buildings and salvaged the prepared wood and materials?
Also getting his grubby hands on or constructing any wagons, dredges, carts or sledges is a priority.
Also anyone not involved in any other labor should be cutting and preparing saplings 8' to 12' feet long into fire-hardened sharpened poles.
Fourthly, could Thurgood use his ability with rats to summon a big group and send them through the abandoned town looking for forgotten caches of food, tools, cloth, medicine, seeds, oil or candles and weapons?
Also does Rukspek have a mill ( wind or water powered ) seeing that was what his father did Thurgood would likely be interested in salvaging any of the hard to obtain milling gear left over.
Especially the grind stones and the more complex gearing.
P.S. I never thought Thurgood having a background in both milling ( from his father ) and mercenary soldiering ( from his mother ) would come in so handy!

Rowdy! A rat-assisted smash-and-grab in Rukspek! As far as the rumors go, it sounds like the Rukspekkers all fled as a unit when the news first arrived, following a messianic priest of the Red Temple. Casual inquiries with a local trader reveals that here is a watermill there.
As far as the general/macro vs. specific/micro varieties of "orders" goes - yes. I figure that those different 'modes' can be used as needed. I'll be keeping track of time, so projects or activities that take longer periods should be considered, daily routines established whenever possible. But I'd add a third variety, which we are in right now, which is pretty much just abstract/non-time!
One way that it might be good to think about actions is in terms of the amount of time invested in them. Like when it comes to Rukspek - scavenging the town for 1 day, or 3? or open-ended - until you are satisfied that you've found what you will find, or proven to yourself that there is nothing to salvage?

I will have time to address this stuff tomorrow sir!

Don't worry, life has a way of spoiling schedules. I'm more than happy to accommodate.
Also it gives me plenty of time to plan.
I thought of a few things to add to my groups "Looking For" list.
Besides the basic provisions we'll be looking for these either in the abandoned town or attempting to purchase or "liberate" them from the local surroundings.
I'm assuming that the groups listed with smiths include all the tools of the trade?
A loom A potters wheel Potato or turnip buds Wheat or corn seeds Beans for planting As much salt as we can get our hands on As much preserved food as we can get, any and all varieties Plenty of water barrels and skins in case there is no ready water supply Any livestock we can get our hands on, especially chickens, cattle and pigs All the metal we can drag or carry ( in case the area we end up in is mineral poor ) I also want to make sure to bring some rats with me, just in case there are none in the new world ( Ignoring the ecological disaster waiting to happen dropping rats into a vulnerable ecosystem would create )
Oh and pie in the sky was Rukspek a walled or defended town?
If it was we'll see if they left behind any mounted ballista, catapults, etc. I'm thinking of basing our initial expansion on the Roman military model and they always hauled along some light field weaponry.
As far as doing either a scavenger hunt or results I'm happy to do it either way. I don't know if your more interested in getting stuck in to the settling phase or the scrounging for supplies side of the adventure.
P.S. Id like to find out what equipment, animals and arms the group of elves are carrying. Using someone dependable but seemingly harmless to ask and scout around, an old veteran, a reliable young girl or woman or a old woman.
This new world just might have to do without elves.

OK TKD - sorry this is taking me way too long - but I have not been entirely idle in the meantime! I think the way that I would like to handle things in a pretty abstract way when it comes to amassing materials and goods for the coming transition - with your permission of course. My idea is this:
We'll keep track of percentage chance scores. Initially I have been thinking of these categories: Fungibles, Raw Materials, Finished Goods. So, when you want to draw something out of your raw materials (like wood for construction for example) a roll is made against your current score. Success means you brought enough, and a certain amount* is deducted from the raw materials score to reflect exhausting the stores. The stores can be restocked also (farming, etc for fungibles - lumbering, etc for materials, etc, etc).
Does this seem workable? It may be that it will become more important to apply more granularity to it, and we can build that bridge when the river is in sight!
* the amount would be a judgement call on my part unless/until a system evolves

You find that many of the more 'propertied' of Baxan turn a deaf ear to both your sound reasoning and your personal charms. It is unfortunate (i.e. two bad SR's!). There are a few small farm holders that remain unattached to a larger group of townsmen. You come to know of them through two young men who have agreed to help you in the "sack of Rukspek". The families will await your return, and suppy cart, mule, & tools.

Yes
Oh and pie in the sky was Rukspek a walled or defended town?
It was not. It was a small community of creepy zealots.
P.S. Id like to find out what equipment, animals and arms the group of elves are carrying. Using someone dependable but seemingly harmless to ask and scout around, an old veteran, a reliable young girl or woman or a old woman.
The elves all have the look of wizards of their kind. They are rarely seen to hold or bear anything, but always seem to have whatever they need at hand.
The sack of Rukspek
The community is a less than a day's walk. After gaining the trust of Tharak & Fols, and deeming them also worth yours, you make quiet plans to gather what can be brought out of Rukspek.
As you pass through the lowlands, you call out to the rats and rodents. Many come to your call and follow along. Coming to the crest of a hill which overlooks the small white-painted buildings of Rukspek, two of the rats transform before your eyes to a half-rat half-man form. The wererats have gleaned your plans and have decided to assist, and to travel through the gate with you if you will have them.
Rukspek was not defended by anything but a very low ring wall of stacked field stones. There is a small water mill, and the mechanics are intact. You see the rats darting through windows and cellar entrances, scurrying across the rooftops.
The only stone building in the settlement is the Red Temple. The gods venerated by this temple stand as statues in front: Men claim that Valga will someday drown the world, and his consort Yegel stands morosely beside him. Those who venerate this pair tend to express their religious sentiments with excesses of resigned gluttony. The rats that come back from within the temple building often have fine silverware, small personal effects, some coins and jewelry.
An impressive amount of materials have been gathered, much of Rukspek disassembled as dusk approaches. It is possible that more searching will yield more returns. Would you continue into the night or leave Rukspek?

Firstly may I say Yahoo! Were-rats, how cool is that.
Yes Thurgood will definitely accept the were-rats into the group.
Seeing as Thurgood and crew are pretty nocturnal in preference he and his rats will work late into the night. Then they will set up a guard and get a few hours of sleep and return in the morning.
P.S. If the elves seem to be wizards Thurgood will put the better part of valor to good use and leave them alone.

Almost a month? Sorry, TKD. This is obviously dawdling, and it is totally my fault. Things don't look good time-wise around here until after June (work load increase, certification test, & wisdom teeth pulled this month). Good thing more people didn't jump through the gate! Again - sorry - I'm going to have to back-burner this until next month.

No problem, things have been crazy for me too.
I was planning on expanding and submitting an article on armor in T&T to "Fight On", but I just haven't had the time, attention or energy to get it done.
