For those who are posting tables of data, a quick-ish way to make it display in nice columns is to use the TeleType tag: [tt][/tt]. You may want to increase the text size slightly, as the base size seems to be smallish. Do that with the tags. Here's an example: Dexterity-------------Analysis-------------------Die Roll Needed to Hit --------------------------------------Short Range------Medium Range------Long Range 0-6-------------------Rotten------------1------------------Miss---------------Miss 7-9-------------------Very Bad----------1-2----------------Miss---------------Miss 10-12-----------------Bad---------------1-3----------------01-----------------Miss 13-15-----------------Poor--------------1-4----------------1-2----------------Miss 16-18-----------------Passable----------1-5----------------1-3----------------1 19-21-----------------Fair--------------Hit----------------1-4----------------1-2 22-24-----------------Good--------------Hit----------------1-5----------------1-3 25-27-----------------Keen Eye----------Hit----------------Hit----------------1-4 28-30-----------------Excellent---------Hit----------------Hit----------------1-5 31+-------------------Superlative---------Don't Worry, you Never Miss...All that I've done is added [tt] before the original text, and [/tt] at the end of it. For comparison, the original table is here: trollbridge.proboards44.com/index.cgi?board=combat&action=display&thread=665One caveat: this method doesn't work if you use spaces instead of dashes. For that, you need to use
markup tags, about which I will write later.

Hmmm...Fourth Edition man, eh? Put 'er there! Or did that table come from even earlier? 4th edition, and also Monsters! Monsters!, I think. I just grabbed the most recent table posted - by Castiglione, as I recall - for convenience. Which is not to say that I'm not fond of 4th edition... Edit: I just noticed that this is thread number 666 on the General Board. I wonder if I should read anything into that...

Um, maybe that formating is evil? Or maybe Not formating is evil! An eternal dichotomy.

that's handy! thanks! my html is pretty cruddy. I tend to go with <pre></pre>, which is funtional also (usually encapulated within <b></b>) - and I just noticed that there's a button in the 'Add Tags' toolbar of this message writer - so no excuse NOT to play with it...
quick question - I'm used to the <> notation in html - is it the case now that the square-brackets serve the same function?

Our host, ProBoards, uses square brackets for their tags, yes. Other boards may use something different, but square brackets are probably the most common.
They serve the same function as angle brackets in HTML, but only in the context of the board. You can't write HTML using square brackets*. (I imagine that you already knew / guessed that, but I figured that it can't hurt to mention it.)
* Caveat: as far as I know. Strange and wonderful things are being done on the Intarwebs today...

UncleCranky, I'm sorry, but I don't have them in electronic format, and I won't have the time to type them up for a month or more. Apologies.
