'E's not pinin'! 'E's passed on! This zine is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker!
'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!!
THIS IS AN EX-ZINE!!

Oh dear, I do so hope its not akin to misold ex-parrot. I'm sure Sligo will pull all the threads together. After all, the mighty game itself has been around long enough and survived the odd downtime.

Look, I'm not trying to upset anyone, but I do think this needs talking about and maybe resolving. The Zine is after all a TrollBridge undertaking. Even Ken on the Walla said to get on with it months ago.
I know its a big job, Zanshin and I sweated blood bringing the first issues to you in a timely manner. One of the roles of the Editor is to ensure the publications ready on time and Zanshin did this with a lot of skill. I was very proud of how he keep us all on track.
What's the hold up? Original Art??? The Zine never had an Original Art policy we used what was offered. I repeatedly reported here that getting and keeping good artists could be a problem. That we needed to defend them and not mess with their offering. Complaints about cropping and compression being the key issues.
The cover for TZ4 had been chosen, but the new editor rejected it. I don't think that was a wise thing to do, what message does it send to our artists? I'm not wasting my time doing art for a Zine that rejects approved art, is going to crop it or overly compress it.
Actions have consequences, we have little, to no art, we have writers who contributed lots of work, sitting in the dark wondering whats going on month after month, we have readers making excuses and jokes.
I think its dead. I think that if we admit that, those who have work sitting in limbo can take it back and find other ways to publish it.
What other course of action is there? wait for Christmas, BS if its not done by now its not going to be!

Doesn't sound too good. :/ I submitted a few colour pieces of art and some rather ropey b/w paragraph fillers. I'd been holding off selling them as generic stock art through my own store (although I couldn't resist sticking some trolls on mugs plug) I think gaming hobbyists are not too discerning about zine art when the download is very cheap or free. I'm guessing, from reading here that there's a lot articles been sent as well. Personally I have a low sense of quality control. Just bind up the files - change the headline fonts and stick it on Onebookshelf as the "free style" issue (print 1) - make corrections later (some sites inform readers of PDF revisions). I think I agree that its difficult to reject content and art when its free, but everything is so reusable, that the artist or writer recovers and goes off and does their own thing. I can see I've joined this at a really late stage. Would it be wrong to set up or commandeer another publication and get people to resubmit material to that or set up a Trollbridge Lost Arcana document? It could be a sort of provisional fan mag or volume whilst you wait on TZ4 (btw I'm a big fan of padding out my DriveThru store with glossy freebies if theres need for another retail or provisional outlet) Naturally you have to seek permission again from game license holders. I'm sure this has all been covered before. I'm just worried that there's a lot of good typed ideas languishing on hard drives.

PM the editor?
He's probably under the pump from all sorts of demands and might just need a helping hand.

Good point, Hogscape. *grin* I didn't mean to suggest a coup. I'm about a year behind on most of my own projects, so my sympathies go out to all editors of TZ, past and present.

Yeah, it's not dead. Just on the table waiting for the application of the cardio paddles.

I had recent contact from Sligo asking for the contact details for one of the articles submitted for the zine, so it is clearly still in the works.
Sourcing art was always my biggest headache even with the excellent contributions from Quogmyre, Hogscape, Thorson , Grumlahk and Al Cook. I did not worry about art originality, only that it was approved for submission and cool. The new editor has chosen a more demanding road and I am not surprised it is taking him longer.

Machfront has a great idea - go to the ODD74 forum and post a request for artwork there - they are a hugely talented bunch!

The last that I can recall sligo saying was that he was only waiting on the author of a solo to finish some corrections (or something like that). No idea what, if anything, has happened since then.

I have two GM Adventures that are waiting for final updates from the authors. Whichever is delivered first is the one that goes in. One has some artwork for it, the other doesn't, but I'll be able to scrounge some of the unused submitted artwork for it. Once either adventure is in place and formatted, I have to do the Table of Contents and "About the Author" sections, and any miscellaneous stuff.
And that's it. *sigh*

So are you blaming this other person or saying you are so short on content you couldn't pull an article to get the thing out?

I don't blame anyone but myself for not being persistant and pissing people off by constant badgering and being an annoyance. Considering no one is getting paid for any work being done, I don't feel it is appropriate behavior to constantly harass people, make threats, or otherwise demean them when it is their good graces that I'm trying to cultivate. In short, I want the best possible content for TrollsZine, and I want the contributors to have a positive experience so that they might be willing to contribute again.

Excellent. Sligo's on the case. The silence was unnerving, that's all. Good luck pulling it all together.
