Flippin' 'eck Prof! That is just awesome. I'm there! Any chance of you doing a crescent shaped isle for me? Glad you like it, Hogscape. It's possible I could come up with a crescent shaped isle. I'll play around with the idea and see how I can generate such an island. It might be a little while. It all depends on how much free time I can come up with. PS: The Guild Registrar (Guild of Wizard's that is) in my game is called Professor Gremlyn... Hope you don't mind me borrowing you. I'm honored. If I can't be immortalized it may as well be my alter ego. There's also a grim and dark fortress rising unbidden from the waves known only as Castle Machfrönt but that's another story. Oddly, that's another render that I've had long in my mind. A castle rising from the waves with a forbidding storm approaching. The problem is that with these two programs I'm literally sculpting the rock into that shape. It would end up looking rather crude. As an example of what I'm talking about, look here: Castle in the Mountain.

Any chance of you doing a crescent shaped isle for me? Ok, I had an insight regarding how to generate this kind of terrain. I jumped online and Googled crescent shaped islands and while I didn't quite get what I had hoped for I did come across the island of Santorini. What I came up with was close enough to that kind of shape that I think it'll work. It should be noted here that I am only responsible for the terrain maps in this image. The atmospheres were courtesy of Saved by Grace (Simply Perfect atmo) and the Nethergrounds Atmospherique I package (Purple Dreams atmo) while the surface map was provided by Jen Cabbage (Sandy Beach surface) though her website seems to be no longer available. Is that something along the lines of what you were imagining, Hogscape?

:-) Castle MachfröntOne day’s sail due North of Spindlerift can be found Castle Machfrönt. It is a grim black stone fortress, completely out of place -- rising as it does unbidden from the jagged waves. The water surrounding the castle is always treacherous regardless of the prevailing weather and there seems to be no dock or entry at sea level. Occasionally lights are seen in the upper arrow slits but the rest is a mystery. Cool. That place may have to 'visit' my world (surely due to some nefarious powers).

Thanks so much for taking the time and going to all the trouble but by Shelly Winters' hoary beard it was worth it!!!!!!! You're quite welcome, Hogscape. It was a learning experience for me and I'm quite gratified that you'll find it of some use. Is that large enough? Will you be able to make a sufficiently detailed map for your purposes?

Professor, those images are absolutely perfect as they are. Thank you so much. I had envisioned Ruatan, the crescent isle to be one on it's own but it makes far more sense for there to be other land masses scattered around. The plan view is perfect for mapping and the 45-degree shot will make an awesome introduction to the players as they approach the island from sea for the first time. Truly brilliant work. Cripes, I forgot to Exalt.. Here's one now!

Mach - the castle is inhabited by the Undermen. A league of submariners who emerge from a great portcullis below the waves and attack shipping (despite The Pashtun's promise of protection) in submersibles made from hollowed out giant turtle shells. An iron-capped ram on the prow of the sub holes the ship below the waterline. The Undermen follow the wreck down to the seabed where the onboard mage sifts through the ruined ship with telekinesis to pick out the best treasures.
Some treasure goes to the submerged town of Stilhaven (now called Undercity) near Spindlerift - the Undermen trade their ill-gotten gains with the Rifters for supplies, slaves etc.
Blackfire the Mage used a Dark Entity to raise the fortress as payment to the Undermen for their hand in the fall of Pashtun City.

I had envisioned Ruatan, the crescent isle to be one on it's own but it makes far more sense for there to be other land masses scattered around. Well, in that case, here you go, this is the world map I used to generate the images. If you'd like renderings of the other islands around Ruatan I can do that easily enough. The hard part is already completed so now it's really just a matter of setting the perspective and clicking a button. Don't let the presence of all the other islands around Ruatan sway you, it's easy enough to paint them out. Cripes, I forgot to Exalt.. Here's one now! Yay! ::happydance:: Thank you, I really did have fun doing this.

Many thanks once again!!! You're welcome. I'll see about generating a view similar to the 45º view of Ruatan tonight. I'd have done it last night but I realized that I have three seperate terrains for this world and I was using the wrong terrain to begin generating images. So, I had to go back and find the right terrain so the water depth and surface map showed back up correctly. What did I learn here? Keep notes.

I'll see about generating a view similar to the 45º view of Ruatan tonight. And here it is: The Edge of the World is visible here. I just couldn't get a better perspective of the island. You can pretend it's an artists rendition of a seafarer's yarn
