Not very far. The lantern has a light radius of 30'.

Melanthios tries to listen if the splashing sounds are getting closer.

No, all is now ominously quiet.

Melanthios: "Sounds like whatever we heard may have left already or maybe it's waiting in ambush for us. In either case we might be in for a long wait if we intend to ambush it from here."
"Unless anyone of us wants to rest here I suggest we wait a couple of more minutes and if we don't hear any more sounds we open this door and if the coast appears to be clear we move out."

Poncho: "Let's just press on into the room and get our bearings. Whatever made the noise is some ways north of the stream and has probably spotted our lights already."

Quinlan: "Forward I say! Swords, Spells and Charles at the ready!"

OOC: Well consulting the map in the "Map Room" thread leads me to the idea of hiding in the hidden corridor with the door open a crack until whatever is coming has gone past then jumping out and catching it in an ambush. See the passage door is flush with the wall and out of the way, nobody is going to go inspect the wall as they walk down a watercourse. We wait for whatever it is to walk past, jump out in formation and strike them from the rear, advantage us!

You extinguish the lantern and leave the door open on a crack. After a while your eyes adjust and you notice that the environment is not completely pitch black. The lichen growing on the walls is slightly fluorescent and you can dimly see each others silhouettes as you wait in the corridor.
After perhaps 15 minutes or so, you hear movement in your end of the stream and Drugan sees two dark shapes rise from the water, 30' from where you are hiding. Apparently the water is only waist deep, as the shapes soon begin to wade towards the shore.
(Remember that it is very dark and even the quietest whisper will probably give your position away.)

Gently Drugan touches each of his companions on the head or shoulder and draws their attention to his face where he holds his finger before his lips in the universal "Quiet" symbol.
He touches the wizards and make casting gestures with his hands, then he touches Poncho and makes bow drawing and firing motions.
The he touches Charles, Quinlan & Melanthios and points toward each of their chests, then back to himself.
Then he hefts his crowbar and points back toward Charles, Quinlan & Melanthios and makes following motions. Trying to get across the idea that when he charges out they should follow.
Then with his Misercorde in his off hand he holds his crowbar up in waiting gesture tensed to drop and signal everyone forward to the attack.
If everyone understands he will wait until the lights pass ( Unless more information comes before that ) and then lead the charge at the unsuspecting enemies flank, hopefully leading to surprise and tactical advantage.l

OOC: I believe the shapes are headed toward us...it's hard to tell...must be dark.
Charles nods in a very manly way and stands ready to charge through the door at Drugan's signal. However, he won't strike anything unless he is sure his target is a gill man or is openly hostile. (At this point he doesn't care if the gill men are hostile or not.)

Melanthios nods that he understands Drugan's plan too, then readies his shield and gladius.

The shapes halt once they've reached the shore. The guttural croaks they issue to each other definitely identify them as gill-men. Apparently coming to some kind of agreement, they begin to slowly explore this side of the cavern, but away from you.
While Drugan casts The Illuminating Wisp of Voon (you cannot fight in the dark, -1 ST, +2 EP), Charles and Quinlan pull the door open and you all charge towards the gill-men.
(Your foes are so stunned by the sudden appearance of light that they loose their adds for this round, HPT: 11. However, you should all make a SR on LK, the one with the lowest result should also make a L1SR on DEX. In case of a tie the lower LK attribute loses.)

OOC: Well my low Luck once again rears it's ugly head. 4+2 for the dice +9 Luck =15 a fail, curses! Now for my damage 1d for his crowbar & 1d for his Misercorde. 1+3=4 lets hope the others manage a better showing!

Melanthios' SR on LK: 2d6 +12 4 + 6 + 12 = 22
Melanthios' attack: 2d6 +4 3 + 1 + 4 = 8
