The corridor goes north-west for about 50' and then opens up into a large cavern, roughly rectangular in shape, 170' north to south and 90' east to west. The ceiling is high, perhaps 30' feet at its highest point and the west half of the cavern is a deep pool. Distantly you can hear waves breaking on the other side of the western wall.
You have barely taken this in, when you hear the sound of several wet feet enter the corridor behind you. The room is a dead end and except for a few large rocks and a large natural pillar supporting the north end of the cavern, there are no places to hide.

"Form up lads, we'll hold them at the entrance and prevent them from getting behind us"
"Shields to the fore then archers then spell casters"
Drugan grasps his crowbar in one hand and his cudgel/makeshift staff in the other and prepares to unleash a withering bolt of arcane might.
OOC: I'll wait to declare my action until we can see what we are facing.

Charles readies his spear and shield and takes the front rank.
"This spear is really starting to stink. I'll have to find a new one when we get back to town. But for now its time to spit some more fishies!"
As he waits to see what comes from the corridor Charles considers the deep pool to their west.
"Someone keep an eye on that water. If anything that looks like a tentacle comes out give a yell."

"I Charles, I've no wish to repeat that experience!"
Drugan will stand back enough to keep both the corridor and the pool in his line of sight.

Melanthios readies his shield and gladius and positions himself near the tunnel opening ready to fight any gillmen or other monsters trying to get into the room.

Four gill-men and the officer leading them enter the cavern. At the sight of you, the officer barks some orders and prepares to hurl his trident at Poncho (L1SR on DEX or LK to dodge).
As you were forewarned of their coming, you will get to act first if you want to use any missile weapons. Otherwise the fight is on.

Poncho dodges, dips, ducks, dives... (SR DEX)
2d6 2 + 5 = 7 (+13) = 20 and dodges!!
In retaliation I'll fling my own trident back at the cheeky fellow..
2d6 +2 1 + 2 + 2 = 5 HPT

So thats five gill-men all together?
Drugan spits a vile curse and unleashes a scintillating blast of arcane power ( The Penetrating Laceration of Koth) for 14 points to the gill-man officer.
OOC: time to go modify the old ST stat again.

So thats five gill-men all together? Yes. Remember that the gill-men get half their MR in adds during the first round, so it's going to be a tough fight. Those who have extra missile weapons should definitely consider using them before the melee begins. And perhaps someone could lend Poncho a proper melee weapon, he seems to have thrown his away.
Now I'm going to go back to being the evil TM* again...

OOC: Oops. Perhaps the trident that Poncho dodged is close to hand?

OOC: This is the system we're using for missile combat, correct?
PC vs. Monster: 1. Roll the monsters dice, if the roll is higher than the shooters DEX + LK the shot misses or does no damage. 2. If hit, subtract the monsters roll (in step 1.) from the shooters HPT.
Does the monster's roll include it's adds or just it's dice? In any event...
Charles screams an ancient challenge at the gill men
"Get some!"
He then throws his spear at one of the gill man regulars hoping to incapacitate the ugly brute. Charles then draws his sax and prepares for slice up some fish.
Attack roll: 2d6 +1 4 + 4 + 1 = 9
Hmmm...berserk spear thrower? ;D
