Is anyone going to Gencon? (I'm not.) Jim "that guy" at "that company" mentioned the new T&T Boxed Set will be released at Gencon - I was just curious if anyone could get the scoop!

Well, it's something at least. Still, taking a full year is not winning me over. I can't stay too mad at them, though, and in interest of my fave game, I'll say: "Thanks." (at least...in a dead-pan voice) by buying it.

Yeah I can't say I'm too excited over this either. I kind of want the Codexes (codices?), just to complete the ones that come with the 7.5 set...The rest I could do without. The GM adventure and solo might be good, but I don't particularly want them over some of the others available on the OP web site. A pad of character sheets would have been awesome back in the day, but these days I have easy access to those things called scanner/printers....

I fear T&T is moving into the complex/big books realm. I like it better when it is just one rulebook and modules/solos.

I was at GenCon yesterday (hit'n'run one-day mission) and wandered past the booth, but didn't buy anything. I did stop by the Flying Buffalo booth and chatted with Rick Loomis for a while. He says "not in the near future" to my query about releasing an updated edition of Mercenaries, Spies & Private Eyes, if you're curious.

I'd rather have 3 more sheets of tokens instead of a pad of Character Sheets, but it looks like a good boxed-set deal.

Just wondering...

I'd imagine that cost is a big factor, order99. I don't believe that Flying Buffalo is massively profitable (although I have to assume that it makes enough money for Rick to get by, at least) and MS&PE is a somewhat fringe product. Costs for traditional printing are fairly high for small runs, and he doesn't seem to be going the Lulu (or equivalent) route at this stage.

That one totally slipped my mind. (Or, as my daughter would have said " Epic Fail!") Well, maybe only partial fail because I did stress how much I thought he should get products into print-on-demand, but it was still part of my MSPE chat and he might not have thought more globally... And, yeah, I got the impression that Flying Buffalo is barely hanging on and putting forth the effort to revise products would take time and money that they simply aren't willing to commit at the moment. Kind of a sad chat, actually.

I just talked with my brother-in-law at Gen Con - he's going to the booth this afternoon, so I'll post an update when I hear from him.
UPDATE - the Delver's Kit did not ship in time for Gen Con!

As soon as someone gets the Kit could they give a brief overview of the GM adventure and Solo.
Additional monsters don't hold any attraction for me, the beauty of T&T is that you have an unlimited special effects budget to make your own.
As for the spells... Nah.
2 dice? But why? Perhaps they're really, really special...
Still get the set though and I'm happy to see anything in print for T&T.

I fear T&T is moving into the complex/big books realm. I like it better when it is just one rulebook and modules/solos. I don't think you'll ever see the day when you would by a T&T solo or GM adventure that said: "Big Monster Codex 17 required for play" The spell and monster codex are there to motivate the imagination and provide adventure ideas. Going beyond one book would be missing the point of T&T, I just can't see it happening.

Since it's called The Delver's Pack, the focus should have been on the player, not the GM (in my not-so-humble opinion). Here's what I'd like to see in my wildest dreams. - Part II of the spells codex; save monsters for later - Terse reference cards listing spells, equipment, racial modifiers...to avoid having to pass the rulebook around (my group does this far too much). Maybe rules summaries such as how saving rolls and combat work. - A compilation of creative saving roll examples for players who need inspiration, as well as some of the better optional rules such as berserk. (This could be a short booklet, maybe 8 pages or so. - Premade characters of various levels with decent background stories and unique qualities (higher level guys might have an awesome magic weapon, for example). - A solo for players whose character just died in the middle of a dungeon...Dead characters are problematic for me. Back when I was a kid it wasn't so bad, because my friends and I would hang out all day long, we had no tight schedules...If someone died he'd go off to play Nintendo or something. These days it's hard to round up busy adults, and it sucks to be removed from the game because you made a bad roll (and I'm not big on GM fudging). So, personally I'd like to see a second-chance type of solo, where the character's spirit can escape from the underworld and return to his body (if he's lucky). Or maybe an ordinary solo that's just quick-playing, without much of a story, to build up a new character. I say without much of a story because the guys at the table are laughing, cheering and yelling out dice totals, so it's hard to focus deeply. The solo should be easily leavable - you finish your encounter then you can leave, so when the party returns to town to recruit a new guy, you're there waiting, with hopefully a level or two and some neat equipment or other unique qualities. - Yeah, what order99 said: tokens! - I guess dice and a character sheet pad couldn't hurt, but I doubt there would be room in the box at this point. Personally I'd find pencils and maybe graph paper more useful but that's just me.
