"Thank you for the shield Drugan, it should keep those gill men at bay. I may need to leave these coppers behind though. Quinlan, do you want my target shield? It may serve you better than that buckler. Perhaps Drugan could use it?"
Charles uses one of the flasks of oil to fill the lantern.

After two days of rest you open up the trap door and descend down the stairwell. The south door is ajar and everything is ominously quiet.
(If you do not state another marching order, I'll assume that two warriors are in the lead, followed by the magic-users, with another two warriors holding up the rear.
ragnorakk, you are correct in that there is no roll to enchant a makeshift staff, just expend one point of ST.)

Drugan peers inquisitively over Charles shoulder. "Lads is it just me or do you get the feeling that we are walking into an ambush?" Drugan will have his older makeshift staff/cudgel in one hand and his trident in the other OOC: Can Drugan use his trident in combat? We always handled the wizards weapons restrictions that wizards do only 2d 5th edition/ 1d 1st damage no matter what the weapons dice listed. However if Drugan can't use it in combat the trident is still useful for poking things with!

"Well," Charles begins from behind his trusty new tower shield. "I guess there's not helping that Drugan. They must've known we were coming back. "
"What say you gentlemen? To the south again? Shall we return to the west and the barracks or take the passage to the east? Or perhaps the gill men have fixed the statue that a certain someone broke in the last two days?"
Charles considers his own options.
"I vote for going to the east. They may be waiting for us where we've already been."

Melanthios: "I agree with Charles. Let's go east and see where this tunnel leads."

You follow the soot blackened, southern corridor eastward. It runs for 110' and ends in a rusty metal door, which is slightly ajar. The room on the other side is veiled in darkness and dead silent.

"Well this is tense," Charles whispers to Quinlan. "Shall we see if anyone is home?"
Charles looks over his shoulder to those behind him. "Be ready with your magic wizards. Someone keep an eye to the rear. Let's not get ambushed in this tunnel again."

Drugan examines the passage carefully for anything that may have been put in place since the last time they have been through.
Shifted stones, tripwires, braces against the wall, unusual smells or viscous fluids on the floor or anything hanging from the ceiling.
Drugan readies his trident for a quick throw.
"Be wary Charles, the catfish are probably smart enough to lay traps for us"

Drugan's keen senses detect nothing and so Charles carefully pushes the door open with the tip of his spear.
Nothing jumps forth and so you advance into the room. It is 50' by 50' and you enter 10' from the north wall. The room is filthy, but empty. The only other exit, a identical metal door, is in the middle of the east wall.
As the party surveys the room, Drugan thinks he can hear distant footsteps, beyond the east door. The sound disappears almost immediately.

"Well lads they've coped to us, that was one of those slimy cat-fish beating feet to tell it's friends we're on the way"
"Now the question is do we go to them or do we find a strong spot and wait for their attack?"
