Hey, folks, I've rediscovered a piece of shareware that I thought I'd pass along called the Everchanging Book of Names. It parses an algorithm against a list of seed names and uses that to generate unique names of the same feel. This is really useful if you have a list of names for a game or story that you're using, need another name for a character but find yourself stuck for inspiration. There are a number of Supplementary Books of seed names from various places such as: World of Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, British Isles, Far East, Middle East, Africa, Pokémon, Star Trek to name a few. Using EBoN you can generate unique names that fit the feel of any of these settings. You do have to download these Supplementary Books individually then extract them to the main EBoN directory but that's simple to do. What's more, there are instructions on how to create your own chapter of seed names. The software is shareware and some of the Supplementary Books are locked until you register the application. Locked simply means that you won't be able to generate more than 5 names at a time without re-seleting the book. Other than that, the software is fully functional. I believe the whole progam, including Supplementary Books, comes in under 5MB. There's no install, just unzip and go. Here's the link for those who are interested: ebon.pyorre.net/

Interesting. Too bad he doesn't support Paypal for registering his software. I see the reason why, but still.

I think I found this software about five or six years ago. The site hasn't really changed since, just a couple of software updates. It could very well be that Paypal didn't support Finland at that time which would have made it quite difficult for him to use it. If his existing offer works why bother changing it, especially if he's not getting a great deal of registration requests? Of course, I'm just guessing.

Yeah, not complaining really. Neat software. But I would have avoided registering completely without Paypal, mostly cause I'm hesitant. Don't know this person or their reputation. Not like ordering from Boozer/ARH's hobgoblin tavern or something. But, neat find anyway. I was just thinking about googling something the other day, to make some NPC personas. I don't want to name them myself cause the names I think up I want to use them for my own PC's
