Hm. That looks good, too. Not exact (the "i" is too low and the "t" doesn't have that slight evidence of a stroke on the left side of the cross), but it looks like I won't find a precise replacement. Is that one of the Optima clones?

Oh, and Prof, thanks for the info. I'll certainly look into that to see what my printer is doing and with what.

Is that one of the Optima clones? Not sure Mach, I stumbled across it whilst looking for the Algerian font which had somehow done a runner on me.

I hope you keep guys keep us posted on your sterling efforts to OCR 5th ed. If and when you get it done, let us know if you will be willing to distribute in any way. If Rick doesn't want to sell the pdf, there should be no reason not to at least share with folks who already own hard copies.

If you get it done, I reasonably expect Rick will put it up on DTRPG.

The Algerian font is indeed the one used in the T&T logo. I've forgotten where I read it, but I seem to remember that the T&T stuff is indeed Algerian, but some of the letters where manually manipulated. Maybe it was Liz so said so, or Ken.

Yeah, it's strange. I've no idea where in the heck I first learned it was the Algerian font, either, but I seem to recall it was a reputable source. Maybe I read the same thing you did, koraq. *shrug* As far as the scanning/OCR: I dunno. I hate to do a sloppy job. This is something I've never done before. This would certainly be better served by someone who knew what they were doing and had better equipment. I still can't improve the pic quality, and, for the sake of completeness, I sure to hate losing those border lines I mentioned previously, and I haven't noodled out a way to keep them in without screwing up the formatting. I need more/better skill and knowledge and a better (re: expensive...re: out of my price range) scanner.

I think you have found out why DrivethruRPG have been fairly popular with game producers. They scan everything, so you just need to send them a book. Some of it looks like nuts, like Marc Miller found out...

Ironically, in the case of MegaTraveller, the DTRPG scans are better than the ones he sells on the CD.... but the OCR is really excremental on the tables. DTRPG seems to just "trust" the OCR software.
Further, a lot of DTRPG stuff is PDF generated at the publisher's end. Cheaper that way. Like T&T 7.5. No scans there; it's direct PDF.

Yeah, it's getting better. I'm usually looking to complete collections when I finally turn to pdf. Nowdays with WotC doing its thing I have gone back to eBay.

Ah, good ole ebay. I just bought a copy of DED for $5 off Ebay this past week (it just arrived yesterday). I thought, what a steal...because it is surprisingly in way way way way better shape (practically new?) than my poor DED copy that Yeru (in my posted roleplay session) was unfortunate enough to have to run through. Maybe he really died out from being worn out. Hahahaha. Get it? I kill me! Anyway, that's kind of been my thing lately. Getting new or good condition copies of T&T stuff. When I probably should be spending that money on new materials I never had to begin with.
