Drugan jams a torch in the wall near the entrance and casts "Tsathotha's Sixth-Sense" to check for magical emanations.

The crypt is as wide as the temple hall behind you, but only 70' deep. There are ten sarcophagi, in two rows of five, spread evenly across the room. They are all more or less identical and none of them exude any magical presence. This might be because of the thick stone of the coffins, or simply because there is nothing magical in them.

Drugan twirls his crowbar and gives the collected dead of the gill-men a salacious grin.
"So who wants to desecrate some graves?"
OOC: I'm thinking we surround one casket at a time, flip the lid with our weapons and spells at the ready and work our way down the line.
Alternatively we could lift the lid and drop it back in place if something squirmy tries to take a bite out of us.
Also if we open one and they all pop their lids and attack us we can lay down a barrier with a fire bomb and fight them in the doorway so only one or two can get at us at a time.

Melanthios: "Good plan Drugan. I was going to suggest something similar myself. Now let's see what is in these coffins."

"Excellent. Let's start with the one closest to the door. Might I suggest we not completely surround the casket, but form an arc around it? No sense risking friendly fire."
Charles moves to the casket nearest the door on the right and carefully inspects it for any obvious traps such as tripwires or more sharp bits hidden inside of the carved images.

It takes the strength of four warriors to lift the lid. The contents of the sarcophagus seem to be pressurized and there is a strong suction that finally breaks with rush of air.
A horrible stench permeates the air and you can see that the whole coffin is filled with some kind of watery liquid. But that is all you have time to perceive as dozens of ropy, black tentacles shoot out from the liquid and grab for you.
OOC: Quinlan, Charles, Poncho and Mel will need to make a L1SR on DEX or LK to dodge the tentacles.

"Egad! Even on a slow day, I don't do tentacles!" Quinlan attempts a L1SR on LK... 2d6 +13 2 + 5 + 13 = 20
OoC - phew, just made it...

Poncho: "Oops, bad idea!", drops lid and leaps back.

OOC: Oh for the love of god noooooo! Ok first roll 1+1, go for the roll again 5+1 + 11 DEX= 19 AHHHHH! Drugan is a tentacle magnet. I'm bringing the magic pain on these groping grabbers as soon as I can. Also I would suggest dropping the lid on the tentacles, that should cramp their style.

OOC: Oh for the love of god noooooo! OOC: Oh sorry, I wrote Drugan instead of Quinlan! But Hogscape interpreted it correctly anyway.

Charles leaps back from the writhing tentacles releasing the lid and drawing his sax as he does so prepared to start slicing calamari. He starts to think that a gill man zombie would have been better.
2d6 +12 >= 20 2 + 6 + 12 = 20 ... success

Quick as snakes the tentacles snatch Melanthios around the throat and pull him in. The hapless warrior is crushed under the weight of the falling stone lid (11 damage, armor would help, but not shields).
Both Melanthios and the monster are now trapped under the heavy stone lid. It is pressing on his abdomen while his feet are sticking out.

OOC: Is it possible to get a spell off at the tentacle beast, hopefully getting it to release our comrade?
