The stones topple the heaps and scatter the bones across the floor with a loud clatter. At first nothing seems to happen, but as the noise dies down, you hear footsteps echoing down the corridor behind you.
It is a slow, menacing, walk and every step clinks as if it were clad in heavy armor. A chill envelopes you and you feel as if someone just walked over your grave.

Melanthios lowers his voice: "Quck, someone close the door. Whatever that is I'd rather meet it in the relative warmness of this passage than the bone chilling coldness of this room. Get ready for battle. Shields first."
Melanthios positions himself at the front just before the bend in the corridor and prepares to defend himself against whatever is approaching.

Charles moves up and locks shields with Melanthios. He hold his enchanted trident at the ready.
"I think I'd prefer gill men to this," he mutters as they wait for the eventual approach of the plodding menace.

Drugan's wooden foot clunks as he hops in place to get a look over the parties shield wall.
"If it is a phantom it might be invulnerable to normal weapons, so spell casters be on guard"
"Whatever happens try to stay out of it's reach, I have heard tales of specters that could age with a touch, or freeze the blood in a mans veins with a glance"

Melanthios: "If this thing is a creation of foul magic then maybe that dagger we took from the gill king can be of some use. Who has it anyway?"

"Yes", replies Drugan, "And Charles enchanted trident might also prove efficacious against our foe"

Quinlan just gets ready for the worst with sword drawn and teeth bared. (Hat still at 45-degrees though, you have to give some concession to fashion).

The footsteps stop just as they reach the corner. Melanthios strains his ears, but the silence is deep as the grave.

OOC: This may be redundant but what was the result of the "Detect Magic" on the room?

"Well Comrades I sense no overt magical emanations from the room of bones"
"Though it looks bleak and intimidating I think we should investigate, the cairns of bones look like they might have ritual significance and if it will throw a rock into the gill-mens plans it might be worth the risk"
"In case there is a magical trap or phantom I propose to enter first with a rope around my waist"
"That way if anything goes wrong or I am knocked unconscious by a spirit I can be yanked from the room without endangering anyone else"
OOC: Now that the bone piles have been scattered can we see anything else in the room or does nothing jump out as unusual.

Quinlan: "You're a brave man Drugan and no mistake but if one of us was to enter alone, shouldn't it be someone with a full compliment of limbs? In any event, I don't favour sending one against the enemy when we are many. I say we enter en-masse and put down the big-booted menace; are we not heroes!?"

Melanthios: "The noises were definitely coming from around this bend in the passage. We should at least check it out before heading back to the room."
Melanthios takes a few steps forward and peeks around the corner.
