"Yes, slime is bad news. Let's not go in there again until we have a gallon of oil or ten."
Charles looks over Melanthios' shoulder at the excellent map he has sketched of the tunnels.
"It seems that the east passage will lead up back to a door we can't open to the statue room. Unless that specter is waiting for us I'm not sure we'll find anything new."
"Our choices may only be the slime, the weird monolith, and the room of certain doom. Decisions, decisions."

Quinlan: "I vote the monolith."

Poncho: "I vote the monolith also. I had a notion that those necklaces could grant some ability below water... worth a try anyway."
"For the Room Of Doom, I'd feel better if we had some guinea pig to go in ahead of us. A herd of goats would surely come in handy."

Quinlan: "Ponch, don't you have a herd of goats... oh, hang on... no..."

Drugan nods sagely.
"Killer slime, unknown but certain doom or the horribly menacing Monolith.......Monolith gets my vote!"
"Do you think we could drag the raft and use it to cross?"
"I don't much care for the idea of crossing that open water with gill men and tentacle beasts waiting in those underwater corridors"

Melanthios: "That may be but let's at least try it before we dismiss it. It might branch off into other passages or rooms. Then we can go examine the monolith." "I think I'd also like to have a try at grabbing that magical dagger once we're there."

As you return back to the cold room a gust of wind suddenly shoots through the room, pulling the southern door closed and almost extinguishing your torches. As the flames recover, you notice that you are no longer alone in the room.
Three armored apparitions stand before you amidst the scattered bones. They raise their claymores and give a gut-wrenching shriek as they attack!
OOC: Drugan has recovered 3 points of ST since the last combat.

Drugan focuses through his staff and casts "The Penetrating Laceration of Koth" on the middle specter.
OOC: OK, that does it for me as far as "TTYF" spells go, next turn I'll cast "Vorpal Blade of Saathi" on Quinlan's weapons and hope that lets them effect the phantoms.
Alwyn should have more than enough strength to cast two "TTYF" spells, but his IQ and CHR are high enough he might be able to drive one of the specters off with an "Oh Go Away/Painful Exorcism" next turn if a concentrated blast from all three of us wizards don't make a dent this turn.
This would be a good time to see if the meteoric iron sword will effect the ghosts, because Charles is really our only magical weapon wielder.
Maybe someone without a magic weapon could try hitting one of them with a torch, some ghosts don't like fire. It's worth a shot anyway.

OOC: I don't remember who took the kris (meteoric sword) and it's not listed in the PC roster. Melanthios could use it if nobody else wants to (it has the same dice and adds as his gladius).
Melanthios attacks one of the wights: 2d6 +4 1 + 4 + 4 = 9

"Caught between slime and specters...what are the odds?"
As the wizards send bolts of sorcerous energy towards the apparitions, Charles charges forward with his enchanted trident hoping that his shield will protect him from the spectral swords.
"Let's see how they like gilly steel!"
2d6 +1 1 + 5 + 1 = 7

Quinlan will adopt a defensive stance for this turn, trying to draw the enemies away from he spell-casters (and waiting for Drugan's Vorpal spell to kick in).

Once again the normal weapons simple pass through the fiends, meeting little or no resistance. Charles trident fares better, but he alone cannot hold them back and only the combined might of the magic-users make the ghostly beings retreat and disappear. This threadbare victory comes at a heavy price. For every stab and slice by their claymores seems to sap the strength out of their victims and so, Melanthios, Quinlan and Poncho are left tired and ashen faced.
OOC: The party's total was 45 against 54. Mel, Quin and Poncho have lost 3 points of ST each and the lost ST cannot be regained naturally. Since the foes were not defeated, no EP's will be awarded, except for the spells cast.

Melanthios: "It seems that non-magical steel has no effect on the ghosts and that magic spells serve only to momentarily drive them away."
"In this room there are/were three bone piles, it seems to me that there must be some relation between these and the three ghosts we just fought. What happens if we move the bones into the corridor and out of this unnatural coldness? If that doesn't work maybe we should also try dumping them in a puddle of slime to see if destroying the bones will have an effect on the ghosts?"
