Yes as we all guessed he would. A few interesting posts on the monster rpg.net thread recently one giving a history of OP vs FBI which sounds like a reasonable truth [and also echo's some feelings posted in other talks here about the value Rick has, in his mind, for the IP]. The other post of interest is someone urging Rick Loomis to contact the EFF to see if they'd do the pro bono work for him. [In another thread Rick does ask if anyone knows a good attorney that might do some pro bono work.] So if anyone is currently talking to Rick about anything else they might want to relay the suggestion. Yeah I suppose I never really figured he would stop. I just didn't really expect it. It was kind of a surprise, didn't see it coming, and so soon. I didn't buy it mind you, it was my free copy for being a contributor to this issue (prior to all of this OP mess).

He's planning to take all the stuff he's already published (i.e. all the fan content people have submitted), translating it and selling it internationally. To people who don't know and can't easy discover it's not his.

To people who don't know and can't easy discover it's not his. One small problem with that plan... we can work at getting the message out that he's untouchable. As well as the fact that even his proposed foreign audience is going to work around to here or Trollhalla sooner or later, and he'll be exposed. All the more reason for us to create an alternative to OP that we can direct people to. |

Received Hobbit Hole #18 today. Anybody else get theirs yet? Yeah. Got mine today too. It just depressed and slightly angered me. I haven't looked at it and probably won't. It'll likely go in the trash soon. All the more reason for us to create an alternative to OP that we can direct people to. Huge +1 to that! |

That was my thoughts exactly, TKD. That's why I was surprised. I thought, with the package size, it was going to be my new solo I ran through Lulu. But, I'll be honest, I was mildly disappointed it was HH instead.

Up until I heard about "that company" bombing the whole T&T community with his scorched Earth to sell everything to the south Asian black market , I was still willing to at least buy his "reformed" products. Now he's just trying to drag FBI down the cliff as he's slipping into a personal melodramatic funk.
I actually have a short story written by him, where he metaphorically describes his villain doing this to another villain. I had thought he was speaking of Fiery Dragon at the time. I only have his permission to print it in our second POW!erful Tales short story collection. But once it's published I suppose it's everyone's property using the tortured self-serving logic of "that company". |

I'd love a scanned and OCRed copy of HH and DD and any other of OP publications. I doubt the contributors are getting anything more from him. Did Liz get payments from all those M! M! he sold?
I'd even be happy if my copy had the "Art" work removed. I'm not suggesting selling it, just sharing, you know for the good of the T&T community.
In this case is stealing from a hobbit wrong?

My post was *mostly* tongue-in-cheek  I've never bought any OP stuff, though this has been more a matter of no $$ than anything else. I don't really entertain the idea of responding to OP with attacks or anything - though I have absolutely no qualms writing about it and telling people about it in a public way. People who engage in the kinds of things OP has been doing are probably goingto get themselves in plenty of trouble without me thinking there's anything direct or pseudo-direct I can do. Nevertheless, I would *LOVE* to see a white-hat hacker crusade make his future net endeavors a difficult prospect... (do forgive - there is a human behind the troll mask!) |
