I have contacted Rick, and as soon as I know more I'll let you know.

I would also be interested in submitting solos to this effort. I was pretty excited to see my first solo, House in the Hills, in HH and then come out as a stand alone adventure soon after. That made it all the more disappointing to see it gone just as fast. I submitted a second solo to OP last month which was supposed to appear in HH#18. Now I wonder if this would be a better venue (or if I can submit it elsewhere or publish it myself after already sending it to OP)?
If things do go south for "that company" does anyone have any insight as to the fate of work that has been submitted to and published by them? It would be a shame if all of the original material published by OP became unavailable (there were a number of recent solos I was interested in playing). I imagine this is something that could be worked out with James once the dust has cleared.

Now I wonder if this would be a better venue (or if I can submit it elsewhere or publish it myself after already sending it to OP)? I imagine it would have something to do with whether the original author retained the rights to their work or simply turned it all over to OP. Beyond that, I'd expect there'd be some review of the publishing agreement between each author and OP if there ever was one.

Very good question indeed. I've only submitted one solo and it was to go into HH#19 probably. If things don't come back around, I have no qualms with bringing it to this new avenue we're discussing here. And also, I have a lot of unfinished solos I could get around to completing to add to the mix.

If nothing have been said, you *should* still have all rights to your work, as far as I understand things. Communication is probably the best bet, as usual.
One of my ideas with all of this, of course, is that there should be more options on to how to publish.

Does present an opportunity to define some of these terms as they would apply to an issuance from the trollbridge, or at least discussion of it (understand I use 'trollbridge' as a working title of a largely undefined property...) Namely, that all contributors retain all rights, and trollbridge will make no claim otherwise, in perpetuity and such. Probably have to have some statement about trollbridge being able to use the art as initially presented in subsequent printings... (no lawyer am I) In any case, it really seems a no-brainer that the author(s) & artist(s) retain all their rights. EDIT: Here's an example from the Fight On! magazine <snip> Our authors and artists own all their own work. Fight On! only asks for the right to print your work in the issue it’s originally published in, in that form, in perpetuity. Authors and artists own all other rights and may re-use and re-sell their work to anyone else as they see fit. <snip> That's a pretty comforting thing to read, yes?

Sounds like a sensible way to do it, yes.

For the record, I think that a clone is both inevitable (indeed; there are TWO rule sets employed actively on this very site which really qualify as existing clones already) and desperately needed. For any RPG to live, except for the "big four" perhaps, it needs to be in the loving hands of its fans. By the way, I'm old. Which are the "big four" these days? D&D, White Wolf...Pathfinder? Um...Exalted?

Know what you mean James... indeed, apart from D&D I would also have no clue what is "big" right now.
It was always D&D, Runequest and Traveller in the day, not sure when it all changed.
Heck, I still play En Garde by post.

I only know D&D and T&T. So I don't know either. What's the others?

Hm. Not sure. Outside of D&D...seems I read somewhere that coming in at number two (waayy behind) was Palladium, as odd as that seems. I'd guess Warhammer has been doing pretty well these past few years. I can't guess what the fourth would be. Exalted? It's really popular. *shrug*

Second biggest player after WotC is usually considered to be White Wolf. With Mongoose, Palladium, SJG, FFG, Green Ronin and friends coming in a distant shared fourth. Start a new thread and hash it out.

If anyone is wondering what it takes to put out a professional publication, take a look at both of JJB's solos. I would buy both of them straight off the rack and be very happy too. The artwork is 'public domain' but it's consistent and appropriate and of a high quality.
I don't think "that guy" is planning to fold up his stall and quit playing but he's either going to need to appease a lot of once loyal fans with a credible explanation or find a new audience.

I'd like to contribute as well. I was thinking that we should self publish rather than use Lulu though. Lulu is fine but there's a lot of problems as far as cost (especially shipping outside the U.S.) I was planning on publishing something of my own in booklet form, kind of a DIY publication. Just a thought anyways.

Thanks, Hogscape, for the compliments! I try my best. I have some more possible ones I want to put up but I'm holding off to maybe have them put in various contributions being discussed. But I may go ahead and put another free one up as a PDF anyway in the meantime, after I rewrite it. koraq: That's okay. I was just curious. It doesn't matter to me about what is the most or in what order. Just what the other popular or somewhat popular RPGs were.
