With the whole "that company" issue about artwork, I realized that our board was guilty of a similar infraction by using Liz Danforth's 5E artwork as part of our logo. I contacted Liz, who said that since she was an employee of Flying Buffalo at the time, the rights to the artwork probably were in the hands of Rick Loomis, and she was kind enough to forward my request on to Rick. Rick said: Well, with ProBoards I'm not sure how to put in the phrase Tunnels & Trolls is a trademark of Flying Buffalo Inc. but I did add it to our news header. I also thought that putting the link to Flying Buffalo in an obvious spot (this sticky post) would hopefully comply with Rick's wishes.
Oh, and the Flying Buffalo link is [glow=red,2,300]here[/glow]!
So ... I think that we are legit.

Too legit to quit? Sorry.
So will proboards not allow you to pop in the url within the html of the image at the top, making the image the link?

Good thinking, Vin!
By the way: I'm going to Exalt you for that - not because doing it is an extra-special above-and-beyond effort, but simply because you thought about it and cared enough to do it. Not everyone would have done so - I suspect that I wouldn't have thought to do it.

Well, the whole situation at "that company" really made me think that it would be better not to throw stones if we couldn't take them thrown back at us. I was hoping that Liz (and eventually Rick) wouldn't have any problems with us using the image for the logo because it's all positive exposure for T&T and all, but you never know until you ask and you know what they say when you ASSUME something. :-)
Anyway, it seems to have worked out for the better. I'm still looking to see if there is any way I can figure out how to put a logo and link for Flying Buffalo onto the site. I know I did something like this for Dragonsfoot on my OD&D board, but I'll be darned if I remember what I did or where I did it.

Not a bad decision. I think I sorta mentioned this kind of thing in the OP thread too. Games Workshop HAS sent C&Ds for this sort of minor thing.
I'm sure most people wouldn't mind their work being used to honor and promote their product, but its never a bad idea to ask permission.
Kind of makes me want to ask Sega if its ok that I use a picture of Rolf Landale from Phantasy Star 2 as my avatar picture in most places.
But that's probably getting into silly territory.

Thank you for asking. And thank you to Rick and Liz for agreeing.

I confess I'm irked by the whole thought that you have to do it; it makes me less of a fan of the game (although, we're still playing.......... ). Nevertheless, it you HAVE to do it, is it possible to make it look nicer? That plain line of text jutted in from the side up top looks out of place and spoils the site's ambience......... Maybe it could be put in a decorative box, with a "T&T" evocative font perhaps? I know its a free site, but I refuse to let that keep me from complaining.

can't it be above, or below the
"Hey, quoghmyre, you have 11 messages, 0 are new. Dec 10, 2009, 10:50am "
text, this site isn't pretty but the current placement is bad.
Maybe it just needs to be centered???

I'm not sure I have to do this, it just seemed like a proper thing to do. Rick seemed happy with the Flying Buffalo mention in the News Fader. Let me try the bottom of the page instead of the top. Maybe that will be less ugly.
