Charles looks about nervously as they walk through the forest.
"I don't like these trees...not one bit."
And I like an elf leading me through them even less, he thinks to himself. Even a female elf.
Charles shrugs as he is bested in the arm wrestling match. Better to stand with weapons at the ready than holding a rope.
"I'll stand ready with my trident," Charles says as the trap is laid. "Hopefully I can dispatch one straight away with it and then give this new broadsword a try. The more bloodshed the better I say. If we hit these bandits hard enough then the couple we let live will be more likely to provide us with some information. And if not they can always join their comrades."

Poncho: "I'm with you Charles. I fear these bandits could be a force to reckon with and must be dealt with quickly."
Poncho uses his hook to draw back the string of his crossbow, then nocks a quarrel after lacing the pointy end with a dose of Curare.

Finally, Mahara-la suggests that someone casts Tsathotha's Sixth-Sense to identify opposing spellcasters once the enemy is sighted. The person identifying the key magical persons or items being carried is also reposonsible for announcing this threat to the group or taking out said threat. Mahara-la offers to cast The Painful Exorcism against large monster threats, due to her charisma and defensive abilities, including caltrops and two bolas.
[OOC: Should the elf have different sounding name for spells? I can come up with something druidic or natural, if wanted for flavor.]

[krzyzewski99, no. Most of the spells have not been invented by humans or elves. No one really knows where they originate from, as they have been copied from book to book over distant aeons. Some scholars believe that there have existed intelligent beings long before the kindreds of today and it was these who invented or were thaught by others, the magic as was know it today.]
Melanthios, Drugan, Quinlan and Mahara-la assume their post by the rope, while the others hide in nearby shrubberies keeping an eye on the road. The part of bait falls to Varklud and so he leads Gertrude out on the road, ready to draw the bandits attention.
An hour passes and alertness has just begun to change into boredom, when you hear the sound of hooves. A group of four horsemen are approaching at a swift canter down the road. The one at the front, pulls his reins and yells something to the others as he notices the lone Varklud up on the hilltop.
You can see that riders are all wearing black liveries over their chain armor. As one they draw their swords and begin to advance at full gallop. Varklud flees down the road with Gertrude, leading them into the trap. As they become visible over the hilltop you raise the rope in front of them.
[Melanthios, Drugan, Quinlan and Mahara-la should each make a open ended SR on ST. Two levels of success are required to knock one rider out of the saddle. The results are cumulative.]

Drugan rolls a paltry 4+1, but with his STR of 16 it still equals 21, a first level success.

Can someone make a roll for Quinlan (ST 15). [Quinlan barely succeeds at level 1.]

"Comrades loose your missiles while they are in confusion!"
"Wizards cast your spells on the mounted foe, none must escape"
"Mahara-la sling your bolos well, get us a nice weak looking one" ;D
Drugan will cast a 1st level "Penetrating Laceration of Koth" on the least startled of the remaining mounted riders.

The first horse escapes the rope, but its master is not as lucky and is thrown to the ground. The second horse trips on the rope and both man and animal go flying. At this point the rope slips from your grasp. The thrown riders remain prone [knocked out for 5 rounds], while the wounded horse neighs and trashes around, unable to stand on its broken legs.
The remaining two riders rear their mounts and swing around, attempting to flee back the way they came.
[Those not busy with the rope may attack with either magic or missiles during this same round.]
