This particular house rule absolutely MUST be in my T&T game. I love T&T beyond all other games but without this one housed rule, my blood runs cold...
So what is it?
What is the one, single most important rule (any edition) that has been housed into your game, you really can't live without in a group adventure?
Maybe it's: Power (or similar) instead of Strength costs for spells; level advancement by Adventure Points over attribute points; no dwarves; variations on missile fire; special abilities to round out character types; a certain kindred; no Kremm resistance... And so on. It can just as easily be an omission as an addition.
This is a Desert Island question. You can only take one house rule with you, what will it be?
A perfectly valid answer could be "I never house - I am Mister By The Book" but if you choose a house rule, "there can be only one!" But this is also a What If question so although you'd probably be happy playing T&T any-which-way in the real world, think about that one house rule for now...
It's probably only fair for me to reveal my one and only can't live without it house rule.
Replacing Strength as the currency for spell casting in 5.5/5.0 came a very close second... In first place though is (and it's an odd one): kindred attribute multipliers. I've played in games where otherwise reasonable gamers turn into game-wrecking min-maxers with one glance at a 'x 2 multiplier'... I just get players to roll more or less than the standard 3 dice based on kindred type.
That's mine, what's yours?
Of course, I also fall into the category of T&T player that's happy to get a game of T&T any where, any how.

Only ONE! Well I guess I'd have to go with replacing Strength with Power for spell casting, but I would sorely miss my "Career" character skill system. Oh wait, does fudging the difficulties on 5th edition missile combat count? Arghhh, I must begin constructing my house rule raft to escape this accursed atoll of rule lawyers! You can take my Corgi edition, but you can never take my house rules! P.S. All the equipment I've stated doesn't count as a house rule does it?

A good guess on the Power or Wizardry stat. As my Titanic of house-rules sinks, I'm probably clinging desperately to my floating "Use Strength, Luck, Constitution, or Charisma to power spells - choose on character creation" plank, hoping it washes my to shore. (maybe a better houserule would be No Sharks, or Simian-is-Common Language...) It's pretty amazing how littlehouse-ruling has had to be done with this blasted game!

I would have to say replace Strength with something else to power spells. I favor using another stat like Charisma but a new stat is viable as well...I would still base it on Charisma however.
Why Charisma??? It always gets used as the 'junk stat'. Using CHA can level the field between the other characters. Not all spell users need be stereotypically weak, but they would not likely be as mighty as a warrior. A close second would be Sixes Add and Roll Again (SARA) when generating a Human Kindred character.

WIZ stat powers magic with "Must have current WIZ > target's (before casting cost paid) to affect target."

It's very tempting to keep ahold of the ubiquitous 'power stat' in place of ST.
However, I just can not be without the warrior's armor bonus instead of armor doubling (because I despise how much 5th ed.'s one "ability" for warriors leaves barbarians, swashbucklers and any warrior who is without his armor completely and totally in the lurch and no better than other character types. In my view, it's astoundingly absurd, so...there ya are.).
Can...can I have the warrior bonus adds too? I'll let you have my half of the coconut.
Yeah...didn't think so.

Interesting... I use IQ + CHR over 12 for Power. Perhaps the attribute increase by level options would not apply to your Power stat (in 5.x). E.g.: add double new level to LK unless it's also your Power stat, in which case x 1?
Aramis - is that not already part of 7.x?
Machfront - only 1 house rule for you. One year! I agree, in 5.x, my armour has more character than my character! ;D
More please.

Aramis - is that not already part of 7.x? Yep, but I like it enough to backport it to 5.

My favourite house rule, for 7th ed.:
Humans roll 4d6, pick any three. Everyone else rolls 3d6. Everyone rolls their stats in order.

I like that one too (Koraq's). My favorite is to roll 3d6 once for each stat, but write them down on a separate scrap sheet of paper as just plain numbers (not indicating what stat I rolled them for). Then I re-arrange them onto my character sheet as I please, crossing them off the scrap sheet as I use them up. This will now be 4d6 for humans though

I like to roll in order. It's nice to kick off a campaign with a dose of fear.
