Hi all, I was just surfing the net and came upon this: web.ukonline.co.uk/angora/Output.pdfIt's one of the free adventures by A.R. Holmes. I've read it before but, this time i noticed something i hadn't before. It was written for Trollzine... I'm just wondering, has someone already laid claim to the name?

TROK was done by Middleclaw (Graham Buckingham) from Trollhalla, as I recall. I'm reasonably certain that he didn't trademark the name Trollzine. But contacting him is certainly the best way to go.

Any update on this? I should have known such an obvious name would have already been used.

One tangential update: I *think* we can re-post material on Lulu now. If ya'll put something up on your storefronts, send me a request, and we'll see if the group functions yet.

I have just had a mail from Graham; he seems open to the idea of us using the name, but wants to be able to withdraw permission without notice. I'm reluctant for us to establish a presence and then maybe have to ditch it and have mailed him back. But yes perhaps we should think of possible alternate names as a fall back.

You can just tack Trollbridge's to the front in small letters and it should be fine if need be.
Trollbridge's Trollzine
Not much can be done about this since it is a different name. Otherwise we can go back the name thread and review the other options or come up with some fresh ones.

Unless he trademarked it, what's the problem? He hasn't used it for six years.

... he seems open to the idea of us using the name, but wants to be able to withdraw permission without notice. Have your cake and eat it too? So - what? If he doesn't like what we put out then he wants to pull his permission of using the name? I don't get it. If he hasn't used the name in six years as machfront indicates, it doesn't appear to be trademarked or copyrighted (at least nothing indicated on the page), we're not using content found in his 'zine and not trying to claim some sort of odd lineage from an earlier 'zine of the same name what's the problem? Come to it, it may be that the earlier use of the name 'Trollzine' could have been a contraction of the name 'Trollhalla Zine', facilitated by a shortened email address, as seen in the link posted by mgtremaine above. I'm all for not stepping on toes but I have to ask are we going so far out of our way to avoid stepping on others toes that we're stepping on our own?

Maybe just a very subtle variant: Trollizine - which returns no hits in Google.
(TrollAzine and TrollEzine both get hits in Google)
On the other hand, no matter which way you go (even with just TrollZine) it sounds like a drug name.
Perhaps a community brainstorm session, then a poll to select the favorite from the best options is in order.

He says he has trademarked it in the uk. He also says he only anticipates withdrawing permission if we do a "that guy", and use materials without owners agreement.
I'm happy to go either way as we don't plan to do a "that guy", and i like the name of Trollzine.
Alternatively if people have good ideas for the name I'm happy to switch.
Our commissioned cover art does feature a large angry Troll, so i would like to preserve the Troll theme.
