Any chance you could tell us more about GRiP? I've heard the term, but don't really know anything about the system.

I have used Grip with T&T as well as with Traveller. Grip is not that bad, has a few bugs but no real show stoppers as long as you know how to avoid them. Grip is not being developed anymore. I personally stopped using it and purchased NBOS's screenmonkey. It is better imho, but I will avoid a direct comparison here unless asked (I don't work for either company but I do know the developers).
best regards

Dalton, you hosting any 'ScreenMonkey' mediated T&T games at the moment? If so, what would it take for this old Hill Troll to join your 'virtual' gaming circle?

Hi Dalton,
when I began searching for a virtual table, Sceenmonkey seemed to be the obvious choice (players able to use their browsers, uncomplicated...). The only problem is that it is a Windows only program (for the GM). I am now trying to develop scenarios for Gametable (another virtual table, any OS) for MSPE (and playable with T&T, of course), including the maps, the figures and the story. I would be interested to hear more about Screenmonkey, because I would like to know if my materials can be used in another VT program. Mostly I would like to know the size (in pixels) of a square on a map and of a token representing a character.
By the way, it seems that quite a number of peoples on this forum are using a virtual table program or another. I am right about it? As I said in another post, I think that T&T is a game that works well in VT gaming.

Hi Dhrrru, Hi Gwindel
I am not currently running any screenmonkey or grip games at the moment due to my FTF gaming becoming far too busy. When you guys see me post new rules, that means we where using them the night before in an actual game.
Gwindel, Screenmonkey does not have a pixel per say, as the grid can be changed at any time or played without a grid. The extra coding Zeek did makes it possible for you to cut server/client chatter by 90% with some real neat results. I personally reached a point with both screenmonkey and grip that prevents me from recomending either.
BUT
I am using a new programing language/environment called "Morfik" (http://www.morfik.com) that allows me to program web pages in any language. I am currently using it to write a couple of projects. The first is a church administration package and the other is a customized version of screenmonkey.
I will be looking for playtesters once I have the alpha code complete. I already have the animated die rollers, chat module, pop-up notes and sound modules coded. I am working on the voip and other backend mechanics, but I am running out of time to complete the work.
My personal time has been taken up with making some new molds (I am working on castles now that the city buildings are complete) and trying my hand at mini creation.
Anyone who is a programmer is welcome to join me in getting some code complete.
Take care
Dalton

OpenRPGRPToolsGametableTake a look as they all have advantages and disadvantages.... I can certainly help with GRiP and RPTools, my choice of poisons Mr Dalton, I hav been combining GRiP w/ SM lite to great effect! GRiP for the Character sheets, file transfers, sound etc and SM for the mapping and combat management. If anyone is interested, there is a VGT- Virtual Gamtable convention coming up that is completely FREE! ICoN - Virtual Game Table Convention"Our goal is to bring attention to the various Virtual Game Table and Gaming software products available to gamers wanting to capture the feel of live role-playing games when separated by physical boundaries" If anyone wants/needs help with these apps, just PM me...

Hey emryys,
I am surprised, I thought there where more programs out there for this. I own all of them but battlegrounds. I am looking at combining the map making ability of grip with the total over the web experience of screenmonkey as an open source package. I am the lead programmer for Dungeonforge and I have already gotten 90% of the functionality of MapX and DF converted over as a Ajax Web Application.
I am now trying to figure out the best method of helping a DM create an adventure online from a management viewpoint.
Character sheets, file transfers and sounds where done already as that functionality was inherent in the development environment.
I am doing this all for my own use, but others are free to use it if I ever get it finished.
best regards
Dalton

Hi Gwindel, The development environment I am working in will create servers that work with linux, mac OSX and windows. The client only needs a web browser. If you want to know more about the programing environment go to www.morfik.combest regards Dalton

Screenshots of what ya got so far...? Well, if I showed you screen shots of a partial product, (definitely works for me but far from usable for someone who is not into recompiling an apache web server while running a game......) you would be confused at best. I will see about having a general game once I am finished writing the back end code for the new T&T wiki best regards Dalton
