Balgar inspects the crossbow set in the wall. It is currently empty and has clearly been discharged. It also appears to be missing a trigger mechanism. The stock of the crossbow is bolted to a stone projecting from the wall. The string of the crossbow is attached to a long metal rod that extends into a small hole in the wall. As Balgar and Falcnor wrestle with the weapon, it soon becomes apparent that if they did manage to remove it they would destroy it in the process.

Verner motion for genzo to shine his light down the corridor.
"Well its obvious from the crossbow mounted in the wall that this place is trapped so I suggest we tread carefully"
Verner inspects the corridor for any odd stonework, strange openings or raised flooring.
If he finds nothing amiss he will head down the corridor and inspect the metal door, paying special attention to the possibility of traps.
If he detects nothing he will motion Genzo forward.
"Your wolfish hearing is better than mine, can you make out anything on the other side of this portal"

We may not be able to service it but, we can make sure no-one else makes use of it again.

Balgar begins to dismantle the crossbow. Using his strength and swords where needed he is able to remove the prod and string then smashes the stock free of the stone projection. As he is taking the crossbow apart (L1-SR on IQ, rolled 8, success) he notices that there is fresh oil on the triggering mechanism.
Verner moves down the northern corridor looking for any signs of traps (L1-SR on IQ, rolled 8, success) but finds nothing out of the ordinary. Falcnor follows behind the warrior looking for magical energy but senses nothing.
Verner, Falcnor, and Genzo arrive at the door at the end of the northern corridor. The door is made of bronze and has a simple handle. Inspecting the hinges is appear that the door opens inward. Engraved on the surface of the door are three faces, one of a bearded man, one of a child, and one of a beautiful woman. Falnor still senses no magic emanating from the door or the area beyond.
At this point Genzo moves forward and puts his ear to the metal door. He listens carefully (L1-SR on LK, rolled 9, failure), but hears nothing.
OOC: Balgar and Verner both receive 8 AP. Genzo receives 9 AP.

Genzo whispers to Falcnor and Verner that he can hear nothing behind the door.
Not wanting to return to the rest of the party without more solid information Verner raises his shield and motioning his two companions to back him up carefully opens the door.
Genzo will ready his war bola for an overhand toss over Verner if anything lurks behind the portal.

Falcnor draws his blades and crouches behind Genzo.
All the battle posturing alerts Balgar that there may be trouble at hand so he too draws his weapons as he joins the party and infoms them of his find in hushed tones.
'That trap had been maintained recently friends. I suggest we tread with caution'.
Upon hearing that there is no clear indicator what is beyond the door, he too crouches as he suspects that there may be more loaded crossbows aimed at doors as the other was.
'May i suggest you open the door lightly, just enough for me to be slipping through. I can be telling you if there be any traps at that account. If there be trouble, i'll yell an' you can come bursting in'

Verner nods ready to impose his armored bulk between any danger and his companions.
Genzo stands by with his lantern and war bola to lend what aid he can.

The bronze door opens easily with just the slightest squeak coming from the ancient hinges. Verner opens the door about a third of the way allowing Balgar to slip into the space beyond. Verner and Parafin wait in the passageway forming a shield wall while Genzo, Falcnor, and Mister Bleak remain in the rear.
Balgar finds himself in a dark room. Only a small amount of light filters in from Genzo's lantern in the hallway. Balgar's eyes quickly adjust to the gloom, however, and he is not attacked or riddled with crossbow bolts. He gives the others the all clear signal and everyone enters the room.
Now that it is fully illuminated, you see that you are in a 40' square room. The room smells old and musty and a thick layer of dust lies on the floor. The dust shows signs of being disturbed recently, but you can't make out any details. Dominating the space are three large bronze cylinders in the middle of the room. The cylinders reach from the floor to the ceiling 15' above. In the center of each cylinder is a bronze door each bearing one of the faces you saw on the outer door (west to east: bearded man, child, woman). Each door has a simple bronze handle. There are dark stains on the floor in front of the central cylinder.
Parafin is the last to enter the room. As he passes through the doorway, he lets go of the door and it slams shut behind him.
OOC: I updated the map in the Map thread.

Genzo will step forward and examine the dark stains before the pillars.
Verner will explore the edges of the room looking for any traps or hidden passages.
As he examines the stains Genzo speaks.
"If we decide to open one of the pillars I vote for the infant, the snakes and staff symbol is often associated with healing and might be the safest to try first"

'I would voice a small note of caution with that young one' Falcnor perks up.
'Whilst it is true that we now associate the sybology of the twin snakes with apothocaries, the origins of that association are much darker and, this place belongs to that older, much darker world. The snakes were representative of adze, tools used ritualy in the mumification of the great rulers of this land but, whilst one was used during the ceremony of mumification, the other was to be used in the ritual of rebirth that would lead the fallen through the seven gates in the stars to the land of the gods. So, whilst now we associate the sybology with life, its origins are in death'.
'Also, i'm almost sure that there is more than meets the eye at work here'.
Falcnor reaches out once again as he casts a watchful eye over the pilars, examining them in detail and casting a Detect Magic spell.

Verner walks along the walls of the room, but finds nothing amiss (L1-SR on IQ, rolls 5, failure, 5 AP).
Meanwhile, Genzo inspects the dark stains in front of the center pillar bearing the image of the child. There is one large patches on the floor and several smaller ones, all in front of this pillar. Genzo scratches at the stains and discovers that they are dried pools of blood.
Falcnor once again looks for magical energy but detects none.
As you inspect the room, you all start to feel a little dizzy.

Verner staggers a bit and goes to the door to open it and let some fresh air in. Perhaps the stale air of this shut off room is having a negative effect on the party.
Genzo informs the party that the stains are blood and also attempts to open the now closed metal door.
OOC: if the door is resistant to being opened Genzo will shape shift and attempt to batter it down.

'Ach, i suspect gas' says a light headed Falcnor.
'Of all the blasted booby traps' Cursing the room around him, Falcnor casts a Knock Knock spell on the door he entered by, whilst pulling the crossbow bolt he stole from the corpse from his belt.
'Right, Balgar, when i opens this door, you tug on it with all your might whilst i wedges it open with this ere bolt!'
Whoosy and holding his head, Balgar nods in agreement as he covers his mouth and nose at the very suggestion of the gas that may be filling the room all about him.

As Verner and Genzo start to walk toward the closed door, Falcnor unleashes his spell (casts Knock-knock, 2 WIZ, 2 AP) which blasts the door off of its ancient hinges. It clatters noisily on the stone floor of the hallway behind.
You all start to feel a little better and the dizziness begins to fade.

Verner lets loose a low whistle.
"Remind me to never try and lock you out my friend!"
Genzo will try and reach out with the butt of his staff sling and work the door on the child's pillar.
"Everyone stand back, just in case the pillar has some ghastly surprise to unleash on the unwary"
