I'm a total T&T noob, & I'm curious what are the differences between the various editions. I have (what I think) is the 5.0 edition rulebook. Can anyone clue me in on editions 1-4, 5.0, 5.5, whatever this 6th one is about (if it exists?), & 7.0 & 7.5? It all sounds confusing.
Its not all that confusing. Its true that each edition is alittle different; but no more so than the difference between Holmes, Moldvey, Mentzer, and Allston over in another little esoteric RPG with a cult following; now, what was its name?.............
They're all pretty compatable.
“If you haven’t messed with the printed rules and made at least a couple of changes, you aren’t really playing Tunnels and Trolls” - Ken St. Andre, T&T v7.5 rulebook, page 4.
7 didn't seem to be around long before 7.5 came about. I think the differences mostly start from 5.5 onwards with the addition of Wiz but I would also like to see some kind of comparison between the various editions. Anyone have scans of the covers they can put up too? That'd sure make things easier when picking through what to buy on ebay with regards older stuff.

One major change between 5.5 and 7.5 is the way levels are calculated. Also there where a fair few equipment changes and, more spells added.
The equipment was mostly a cosmetic change but, the new spells where quite a mix.
Another change was the introduction of the Ranger, the Leader and the Specialist mage types, which meant that Paragons (formally Warrior-Wizards) weren't the only special characters you could roll up. I beleive Citizens were a new adage in 7.0 onward too. Oh, and talents!

Actually, citizens originate in M!M!... but are different in 7.0.
Let's see... 4E and earlier have lower dice for monsters and weapons, and Rogues are limited to 7th level. Original M!M! is 4E variant; I have not seen it.
5.0 is the 25 year baseline. M!M! 2E is 5E subset, but with only 2 types: Monster and Citizen. Shorter spell list. LOADS of monster races with special abilities.
5.5 adds options in the back: skills ala MSPE, 1 more stat (WIZ), and the optional SPD stat being made a prime, TARO for stats.
M6.0 is a fan job. it's got loads of little differences.
7.0 is essentially a redesign from first principles. Same 8 stats as 5.5... same basic combat mechanics as 5.X. Spells differ in casting procedures, level requisites, and spell lists. Adds a different skill mechanic, Ken's Talent system.Types are: Warrior, Wizard, Specialist Wizard (4 subtypes), Rogue, Leader, Ranger, Citizen. The Citizen here is different, and less limited than the M!M! one. There is an implied extra type (monster), but that's a debate for another day.
7.5 nerfs the talents, and lessens the experience costs. It's better edited than 7.0, but is essentially the same except for talents and experience costs.
