Sir Webster's Quill is a unique item enchanted in that long-ago age when magic was much more powerful than it is today (EVERY campaign has one............). It appears as a simple yet ornate common quill, but its powers are potent. These are two:
1. When the quill is used to write something, this writing takes on a magical aura. Whenever someone reads the writing upon the page, he must make a SR on CHR at lvl 3; failure means he will fully believe whatever it is he has just read. He may be talked out of such a belief by close friends, but such a dis-swayal will take an impassioned appeal and a SR on CHR at lvl 3 by the friend(s) to succeed.
2. The quill may be wielded as a weapon. It has no STR or DEX requirement and is a 1 handed weapon, but only does 2D. However, it does count as a magical weapon in such cases where that's important, and also if the Quill is being used against an opponent using some type of sword, said opponent must make a lvl1 SR on LK each combat round or his weapon will be broken; after all, everyone knows that the pen is mightier than the sword......... ;D

And to quote Don Henley in one of his songs -
"A man with a briefcase can steal more money than a man with a gun"
I used to dream about the "Remarkable Magic Marker" in which the ink was so powerful that it drew in the air. You would draw a 3-d image of something, and when the last corner was colored in, the image would become real - whatever it was. You needed a sword? Draw one. You needed a door? Draw one.

To cool, Wilowisp. I really like the idea. I finally sat down and watched Pan's Labyrinth this past weekend. The scene where Ofelia takes the chalk Pan gave her and draws a door on her bedroom wall and steps through into the Lair of the Pale Man had me thinking of adding such an enchanted item to my world. Make a Lvl 2 SR on CHR to convince yourself it's going to work. Fail the SR and you risk getting run over by a a Coyote on rocket skates. Roll really, really well and you get to meet Harold of the Harold and the Purple Crayon fame. He'll tell you the secrets of making more enchanted drawing devices.

I agree, most exalt worthy and it's nice to see a magical item that isn't a sword / shield / ring / amulet / armor... Lol, i think the wizards of old must have got a bulk buy discount on stuff like that or something.

Wilowisp, have you considered that perhaps Sir Webster created a series of special inks that could extend the capability of his quill? For example, the ebon hued Shadow Cloud ink which could be used in conjunction with Sir Webster's Quill to inscribe non-living items with temporary attributes. To use, dip Sir Webster's Quill in the Shadow Cloud ink and inscribe the word or rune representing the attribute you wish to impart on the object, such as Silence on boots (remember to treat both boots ), Unnoticed on a cloak or Durable on a tunic. I don't want to step on your toes here but I just thought it would be a natural extension of the artifact you presented.

Now, pass me that turquoise ink; I want to see what happens when I sprinkle in the powdered phoenix tail feather I have here in my mixing pestle...........

Well, my player's PCs now have this little monstrosity- we'll see what happens. It was a reward for their last adventure; but the powerful thieves guild of the city of Atlantis is searching for it to get it back, so their could be slight complications............... *Evil Ref Laugh*
