'You' works for me. One is supposed to make the character an alter ego to some extent, so putting yourself into that character makes sense.
Also, yay for getting the deal with Rick sorted out! Congratulations!

I've worked out a deal with Rick at Flying Buffalo, Inc. that will allow me to publish a solo under license from FBI (provided Rick approves of the material). Great news, Khaydhaik! I don't suppose you could give those of us also interested in authoring "official" T&T 7E solos for publication by FBI et al. an overview of how the deal works (so that we could approach Rick with some understanding of his likely terms and conditions)? And do you have play testers lined up already?

YOU
Please, please, please keep the PC crap out of T&T!!!
The only people offended by "you" are ... well, this isn't the place for an expletive laced diatribe.
When one plays a SOLO adventure, it is the reader who makes the decisions. Not the charachter. Not the book. Not the author. Not some omnipotent/omniscient being whose existence will be debated until the end of time.
This make the use of the promoun "you" not only justified, but the only grammatically correct choice.

Khaid - Count me in as a playtester - provided you're still in need.

I would LOVE to play test for you, Khaydhaik! I've dreamed of play testing a draft "official" T&T solo forever! But it all depends on the deadline for publication, and how soon you want me to wrap up my play testing, as I'm currently holidaying for five months in the UK, and sight seeing and travelling from place to place will slow me down a bit. I would hate to let you down, and delay when your solo gets into print.
That said, I have and have played every full-length and mini solo FBI ever produced for T&T (including all the mini solos published in "Sorcerer's Apprentice", as I was fortunate enough to complete my collection of the first 17 issues in 2004) which, when you add in group play, probably amounts to thousands of hours of playing time under T&T 5E, so I think I'm a reasonably experienced T&T player (indeed, I've played no other role-playing game for the last ten years). Deadline permitting, I'd be honoured (and thrilled) to play test for you, Khaydhaik.
Thanks also Khaydhaik for the post re your arrangement with Rick; that's a big help to any aspiring T&T solo authors out there (like me).

Sorry Khaydhaik, I got so excited at the news that someone was close to publishing the first "official" FBI solo adventure in 12 years, and for T&T 7E no less, I completely forgot to contribute my 2 cps worth on the subject of your thread. Basically, I think the first second person voice and pronoun has to be used whenever it's grammatically required because the reader/player of a solitaire is positioned as the protoganist in the (reader-determined) narrative; they have to be, otherwise the solitaire doesn't really work (the reader doesn't get the same sense of immersion in the "story" as it unfolds). Every game book for solitaire play that I've ever read has used the first second person voice and pronoun, for that reason I believe.

Thanks for the gentle correction; that was nicely done. I look forward to play testing for you, and getting to know your Trollish self better.

Hey. Who says a character isn't "you"? I put a ton of work into my characters. They'd better be me! Where else am I getting the material that forms their psyches? Whoever obsesses over the difference between you the player and you the character must have self-esteem issues.
Okay, and then there's the matter that all my characters have psyches. I guess not everyone works that way. But if a character isn't given a psyche, then separating him/her from his/her player is even less of a big deal.

Okay, and then there's the matter that all my characters have psyches. I guess not everyone works that way. I certainly do. I've always believed the point of role-playing is to "play a role" that you assign a character to make games and gaming more interesting. I always play a character to his/her attributes, too. Low intelligence means simplistic (and often dangerous) decision making; low charisma means disgusting personal habits, rude manner of speech and modes of address, and poor personal hygiene (for example). My characters are often people I wouldn't want to be or know in the "real world" (and my need for carthartic release mostly accounts for why I play them that way).

The more you talk about your playing style, Dhrrru, the more I want to play with you sometime. And whatever forms of you you're inspired to dream up. I especially love the fact that you come out and say "my need for cathartic release." No dancing around it or trying to cover it up; just pure, sweet, blunt honesty.

I love ewe, Quog! Khaydhaik, stick with grammatical correctness, and stuff the PC crap foisted upon us by cowards unwilling to state a clear opinion. I'm all about solos, so count me as a sale! And, I'd like to add my thanks for your stepping up to the plate and publishing a T&T Solo. FBI still owes me two from my ~1985 Solo subscription. I've been holding my breath.... Regards, Skaat
