Taking out his mirror to check his face for smudges after the climb, 'Nasan notes the insufficient light for preening and he beckons Herman absently while brushing dust from his clothes with his clothes brush.

[GM move and NPC'ing Pan and Herman]
Herman brings the remaining packs to the top of the rockpile and a few busy moments are spent hauling them up by the rope. The lantern soon follows the backpacks up into the tunnel, and the group up there is able to see that the tunnel continues deeper into the mountain about 10 meters before making a moderate turn to the left. If there were anything lurking at the other end of the tunnel, it wouldn't see the lantern light near the tunnel mouth.
Pan motions to Herman to go up the rope. "I'll be rearguard and come up last." Looking rather unsure of himself, Herman grabs the rope and begins to climb. As he makes his way up the wall, it is clear to Pan that the boy has plenty of strength, but no sense at all of how to distribute his weight. He has his body almost perpendicular to the wall, and is straining mightily with his arms. At about halfway up, his feet and hands slip at the same time and he falls with a crunch to the top of the rockpile.
Pan steps over to the fallen lad. "Are you all right, boy?" Herman is badly scraped and bruised and has the wind knocked out of him. It takes him a few seconds to draw breath so he can let out a groan. Pan quickly checks him over for any obvious broken bones, and is relieved to find none. Soon Herman is sitting up. "Guess I slipped," he mumbles. "Why don't you take a few minutes to recover yourself and give it another go?" Pan replies.
Herman nods, and rests for a while until his breathing is back to normal. He tenatively flexes his arms and legs, and works his shoulders, knees, and neck to make sure none of his joints are grinding, and decides he is able to try again.
He makes two more attempts to climb the rope, but is too clumsy and too shaken up to make any progress up the wall.
"Look," suggests Pan, "why don't we just make some loops in the rope for your feet and have the guys up there pull you up. You're not in any kind of shape to keep going at this."
Pan deftly throws a couple of loops into the dangling rope that Herman can easily anchor his feet into. He then calls up to the tunnel mouth, "Lads, Herman's hurt and can't make the climb. Can you give him a pull up the wall?" Upon hearing assent from up above, he directs Herman's big feet into the loops. "Now just hold yourself upright on the rope with one hand, and use the other to fend yourself off from the wall. They'll pull you up and give you a hand over, okay?" Herman nods again, feeling more useless than he ever did back in his father's butcher shop.
"Okay boys, up easy." Above, Tenkar and Owynn grab the line and begin walking backwards with it, while Bitsa and Aonghasan wait at the tunnel mouth to give Herman a hand over the edge and into the tunnel. Herman arrives at the top, dirty, bloodied, and deeply embarrased.
Pan sees the rope drop back down into the now lightless cavern. "Last one in is a rotten egg, I guess." And with that, he deftly scales the wall and joins the others at the top.
