This is excellent Porkbelly! A friend on another forum mentioned the same article (which I'm sure I actually have in a buried chest somewhere - silly filing system) Thanks for posting the summary. *exalt (if I can)* That table highlights the fact that in traditional FRPGs the challenge (including monsters) equated to level (or similar), whereas the non-level play of FF keys off starting rolls and acquired benefits. (sorry if I'm repeating stuff) Curiously, in the early FF books, in my opinion, its very rare for a monster to have a Stamina that's double the Skill score, but it's an interesting formula. (Tangent: - Now I'm reminded of a really old discussion we used to have comparing D&D/AD&D and T&T to CoC and RQ - the latter having skill stats and skills growth as opposed to experience levels. How times change. And Traveller ... ? Well, that was all about the credits ...) Yup, Cartomancer, a little chart on a bookmark might be a great idea. Ooh. Thin bookmark character sheets, now there's an idea...

You're in good company with that idea! If i remember right, the old Grailquest books used to do something similar with a bookmark and it sure beats flicking back and forth all the time. :0).
