I can't believe i'm so late chipping in here but, i bought BEAN! as soon as i saw it (which was just before this thread actually started up) and, the thread description here covers my thoughts on the game just nicely i reckon.
It's sleak, elegant, simple and god is it fast! Jeff's really struck roleplaying gold here in what i can only describe as possesing all the qualities of an Austrailian Hypercar... And this one goes all the way up to 11!.
Lets hope we see more games like this in the future and, certainly more for BEAN!
I also want to let everyone know that I'm releasing a corrected version of BEAN2e. The current edition has some odd formatting in it that makes me cringe. This was due partially to the fact that various Microsoft programs don't play well with each other and changed fonts and spacing for no discernible reason. This coupled with the fact that my broken eye can only see a few words at a time means that a lot of basic formatting stuff gets by me. Fabled Worlds has enlisted a proofreader who isn't visually impaired...this just might work. I'm hoping to have the new version released tonight and it includes about 20 new spells, new beasties, new drawings, and a few other details have been cleaned up. Those who bought BEAN2e from RPGNow.com will be able to download the book again, and have the corrected/expanded version for FREE!
Greetings all! BEAN! Edition 2.1 with all the corrections and extras is now available in print! It's up on Lulu.com for $10. With their current 20% off sale it brings the price down to what RPGNow.com will be asking for it when I finally work through all the rigamarole involved with getting printed editions up there. Here's where you can find it now: www.lulu.com/content/paperback-book/bean-the-d2-rpg-second-edition-paperback/10671088
I just wanted to let everyone know that the BEAN 2012 Calendar is now available! It's got images form the rulebooks and adventures (much of it now in color), bits of BEANy lore, and for the first time anywhere you'll be able to see the Beanworld map in full color! it's here: www.cafepress.com/jeffwerx.586706375
Thanks Jeff, I just picked Bean up recently and am really impressed. It hits the sweet spot of simplicity that many other designs miss.
In the past I toyed with the idea of playing T&T by randomizing HPT depending on the MR (or average weapon dice plus adds for characters). ie. MR 25, roll 25 d2. I had fun with that but Bean just does it right. Love it. I'm going to have to refry all my solos now.
It's been awhile, far too long in coming, but BEANWORLD: The Sourcebook for BEAN! is here! It's 87 pages of legends and lore, new creatures, and a whole lotta maps! I really dig these maps and hope you will too. See it here: www.rpgnow.com/product/106089/BEANWORLD-Sourcebook-for-BEAN!-The-D2-RPG
This is great! Curious if you will be offering this as a printed softcover in the near future?
10/15- was just on RPGNow and saw this is now available as a Softcover. You can get the print version and pdf for $12. I think that's a pretty good deal for an 87 page book. I'll be getting a copy to go with BEAN!2e.
Ok, I ordered the print and pdf of the BEANWORLD sourcebook and while I was at it I bought the paperback of BEAN! 2e (already had the pdf) and the solo Cellars of Castle Cassoulet.
I encourage any BEAN! fans to get this sourcebook. Alot of background info, maps, new critters, and reference material. The layout is very user friendly too. Even if you don't play BEAN!, I think you would enjoy this book.
Whew! After too long in production, recent title controversy, and a whole lotta formatting issues, the renamed "World Of BEAN!" sourcebook is available again! The softcover will be available in just a few days (fingers crossed). It's at RPGNow.com at this address: www.rpgnow.com/product/106998/World-Of-BEAN!-Sourcebook-for-BEAN!-The-D2-RPG Thanks for your patience, encouragement, and enthusiasm for this project =)
