We have a winner!... Well, a survivor.
When i saw this thread pop back up, i figured i'd give this adventure another shot as it was a while since i last played and, well, last time it didn't end well at all for all the cold steel i threw at it. This time i needed something special, a different kind of warrior. For the first time in my gaming career, i played a Hobbit!
Now, when all's said and done, i really hate these little <<enter expletives here>> because of how annoying thet generally are (they just seem to eat and fall over or, at least that's my interpritation of "Hobbit Lameness"). I figured though that given just how badly this solo butchered my last delver, playing as a Hobbit could be "fun" *evil grin*.
So i rolled up and to save time i allowed him / her (i never bothered with gender or a name as i didn't expect to survive) one weapon from my NPC generator (rolled randomly until i got something usable) and one piece of armour. Weapon wise, i rolled up a Hand Axe (pretty respectable as weapons go for little critters) and, Soft Leather Armour (which could only have been worse by rolling nothing on the table, but hey, Hobbits can take a beating right?)
Stats wise, our mystery hobbit rolled up a pretty astounding set of stats, with thier lowest being a 9 and the highest a 17!!
To finish them off, i made this one a warrior (keeping it simple) and, we were off bound for adventure and bloodshed... Lotssa bloodshed.
So after the initial greeting, it wasn't long before the hobbit was locked in combat with a wierd snake like creature and, the combat was even shorter dispatching it with a single blow. For a guy with only 8 strength, they were tough! (Still a DEX of 26 doesn't hurt any).
After a little more trundling along, we soon ran into more trouble. A Froglin to be exact. This combat was a little tougher (as you would expect it to be) and a few nicks and scratches made it home as spite damage but in the long run our unlikely hero came out on top and made off with the Froglin's Bronze Dagger (dual wield much) and a few more gold pieces on top of the couple they netted in the first fight.
About half an hour later the mirrors came alive with the sound of an Urook and a rather bloody combat ensued between the two fairly well matched opponents. A slash here and there making it through and spite taking it's toll, with the deadlock being broken by an absolute haymaker delivered by our sort of hero. 44 Hits plus 4 Spite against the Urook's defence of 19!! Absolutely stunning!!
In a brazen act of martial skill the hobbit cleaves full pelt into the Urooks throat, knocking his head clean up and back through the air. Robbing him not only of more than half his MR but also his life. It was now reeling in the red mist that they realized that they had now been quite badly wounded in the chaos, standing at half of thier CON... Well, just about standing.
After looting the Urook of his Tulwar and 66 Silver Pieces the hobbit decided now may be a good time to get the heck outta dodge. Making a bee line for the exit it was only a matter of time before they were safe once again in the garden of statues and heading back to town to rest up before embarking on more adventures in a land littered with monsters and gold. Who knows, one day, they may earn a name for themselves.
If nothing else, i'm not so oppossed to running a hobbit again... This guy will certainly see more action. Any suggestions on where to go next??
