not trying to make you Guilty, but you brought up an interesting topic. One of the criticism of the T&T solos is the insta-death paragraphs. Just a little concerned that had influenced your GM style. I didn't think you were trying to make me feel guilty, but no, the insta-death paragraphs from the solo haven't influenced me. Like a previous poster said, they are a different animal. I haven't had all that many deaths, in my opinion anyways, in all my years of gaming. I've always let the players die when they deserved to. I don't believe is saving them. Giving them a strong fighting chance, of course. Had they done more investigation, instead of jumping into an obvious trap, they would have found a way to get the drop on their enemies versus the other way around.

That's one of the reasons why I think Insta-death scenarios really don't belong in well-designed delves. I agree with most of what has been said here, but I disagree with this statement in one aspect: insta-death scenarios that there is no way to avoid don't belong in well-designed delves. Which is probably what was meant, but I wanted to clarify that just because something kills a character instantly, that doesn't make it an insta-death: - A chasm filled with lava is going to kill you if you fail your SR(s) against falling into it. That's not insta-death though; you can avoid it (by making the SR, teleporting away, and so forth). Although this could count as insta-death if the SR was ridiculously difficult, in general it would not.
- Deliberately jumping into said chasm unprotected is likewise not insta-death; the player specifically chose to take that action, which has blatantly obvious results.
- Pushing on the main entrance door to the dungeon results in you being teleported to a point 10' about the chasm without any gear? Insta-death, and a rather tacky one at that.
As I said, this is probably what was intended by 'insta-death' in any case, but I wanted to be clear.

To my mind, 'insta-death' is this:
"You can go East or West but if you go East it's time to roll up a new charactere."
A puzzle or trap with the potential to kill a character is not 'insta-death'.
