Aonghasan picks up the tome of second degree spells and glances at the others.
"We will be able to move faster if we split them up. Take your pick."
The two wizards take turns selecting manuscripts, and Aonhasan wraps his tightly in the bindle, sinching it fast around his shoulder underneath his cloak.
['Nasan's first pick is the book of level two spells. Whenever it's his turn to pick, he will take the lowest degree still available.]
[Let me know about any signs of the events narrated elsewhere that may interrupt or intersect the following move, especially Panicked monsters or ore cart movements. Also, if Effington wants to grab any personal items or resources before going into the mines.]
As they speed along through the decline shaft, 'Nasan gives Effington a brief summary of Guevara's machinations, also mentioning the overheard message of the goblin and Salazar's subsequent orders. "I think the entire garrison and every able thrall of Salazar is down in the bowels of this place.
"The mercenaries from Dead End must be resourceful to have survived this long, but they are led by a frivolous prima donna deranged by delusions of power and eminence. However distasteful it may be, they will be an enormous asset in Salazar's downfall, and we must assure that their leader doesn't sacrifice them in a misguided last stand against Seagal's troops. Let's hope that they can hold out until we reach them!"

Effington grabs two of the folios, leaving Aonghasan with the other three. "We can sort it out later." Leaving the dining room via the south door, the pair sees the tail end of a catastrophe on the elevated platform. The capstan clicks slowly as the last of the empty carts on the cable crash into a heap that goes almost to the dining room door. They see the last cart roll up and bump into the pile and two miners hop out and run down the stairs to the furnace room, laughing and slapping each other's backs.
On the way down the decline shaft, the duo has to step aside into the shadows to avoid a pair of badly wounded fleeing trolls. The trolls pay no heed to them as they streak by. Once they reach the bottom of the decline shaft, they begin to encounter the wreckage of hundreds of loaded ore-carts. They see several dead trolls and a goblin commander crushed under the debris as they climb over the rubble to the coal-pits.
Following the sound of voices into the south main hall, they climb past the still-smouldering pile of ore-carts and pick their way around multiple dead bodies. Ahead they see Owynn, Herman, Pan, Tenkar, Bitsa, and Ozenda all in conversation while dozens of the dwarven miners stand guard over a badly injured Seagal and several orc and goblin prisoners.
