Effington and the orc captain walk up the stairs to the dining room.
Game time 4/4 19:40++
Please post your next move by noon Wednesday, May 25.
I'm limiting the GM post to this, because I'm not sure what 'Nasan wants to do. Ambush Effington on the stairs? Search his room? Eavesdrop on the interview in the dining room? Head back to the mines? Raid Salazar's library? I'll put Effington's interview in a cut-scene if 'Nasan wanders off elsewhere.

[GM Comment: Man, does that ever take me back. 1984. Playing for hours on my best friend's VIC-20 with - yes - cassette tape memory. Remember: always eat the slime mold!]
Aonghasan moves ghostlike down the stairs to peer into the north guardroom. Two of the uruk guards are still there, looking out the narrow windows at the rain. He sees his quarterstaff just ahead near the foot of the stairs, but decides not to push his luck.

From the concealment of the Hidey Hole in the shadow of the stair, Aonghasan fixes his gaze on the larger guard and whispers «Tógfaidh Méd'intinno».
[Spend 4 mana; SR to cast Spirit Mastery: 4 + 2 + 20 = 26; log 356]
Realizing the Hidey Hole has begun to fade as he recovers from the surge of arcane power, he steps forward. Flagging the ork who woke him, he shows that his hands are still bound, while speaking slowly and urgently in the orkish tongue:
"Hurry, take my staff. Effington has taken Seagal and Hrruuukkk Ptui captive in the dining hall along with Roz and one of the captains; and even now an ifrit approaches the fortress disguised as the master. I've just informed Salazar, but there is no time to lose-- we must gather all those loyal to the master and hold secret council at once. The ifrit will be too powerful to fight. Tell me quickly: who is in charge after Effington, Seagal, the Donald, and Hrruuukkk Ptui?"
[Charisma SR to delay the ork from attacking, and persuade him of 'Nasan's loyalty: 1 + 5 + 6 + 20 = 32; log 357]
'Nasan feels the power ebb back into him as he speaks, hoping that the guard doesn't notice the vacant stare of his comrade as anything unusual. If the ork minds his words long enough without attacking, he casts Spirit Mastery again.
[Spend 4 mana; SR to cast: 2 + 4 + 20 = 26; log 358]

While the larger guard stands dumbstruck by Aonghasan's spell, the other guard is dumbstruck while he tries to digest the wizard's statement. Questions pop into his mind. How did he suddenly appear down here? Why does he want me to take his staff? What the heck is an ifrit? How did he inform Salazar of anything? Secret counsel? Seriously? But he soon recovers his wits and answers 'Nasan's question.
"Uh, with Salazar gone and excluding all the others you named, I suppose it would be Roz. But you said she's upstairs as Effington's captive. Captain Skullsplitter is down in the mines - he took several of the guards from this guardroom with him. I don't think there's anyone left that could be in charge."
But before the guard can even decide what to do, there is a rattling and banging at the front gate. A voice shouts, "Open. Open the gate I thay! It ith I, Thalathaw, youw Mathtew! I command you to open thith gate!"
The guard looks relieved. "The master has returned. Maybe you can sort all of this out with him." He walks toward the south end of the guardroom toward the portico to unlock the gate for Salazar.
[At this point, 'Nasan casts Spirit Mastery on the second orc]
[Bookkeeping: 'Nasan recovers 1 WIZ for the turn ending 19:50 (forgot that), gains 24 AP WIZ and 12 AP CHR.]

The other orc captain and Effington arrive in the dining room before Seagal, Hrruuukkk Ptui, and Roz. Effington takes the seat recently vacated by Aonghasan and adjusts his cuffs as Seagal begins to speak.
"Effington - Certain accusations have been leveled against you, and testimony and evidence from today's events implicate you in a plot to overthrow Lord Salazar. Specifically, that you and the Donald have conspired with Smythe and Cogburn in Dead End to bring hostile forces into the mines and that you are in league with some sort of supernatural being or beings to come here disguised as Salazar. I think I'm going to have to leave the ultimate judgement of this evidence for Salazar when he returns. But in the meantime, we'd like to hear your rebuttal of these accusations.
Effington smiles smugly at the accusations and opens his mouth to speak. For a moment, no sound issues forth. Finally, he says "P-p-p-puh P-p-p-puh P-p-prepost-t-t Prepost-t-t-t Preposterous." His face squinches unpleasantly as he struggles to produce the word. A look of panic comes over his face. He tries to continue, "L-L-L-Lies! All l-lies! M-m-my loyalty t-t-t-t-to Ssssss. Sssssss. S-salazar is t-t-t-total!"
The Tongue! It has betrayed me!
As he continues to stammer his way through a denial, he begins to frantically reach into his pocket for the tongue in order to get rid of it. "Watch out! He's going for a weapon!" Hrruuukkk Ptui cries. The huge orc captain steps up behind Effington and grabs his arms. Overpowering him with brute strength, the uruk leader pins his arms behind his back and deftly binds Effington's wrists together with a strap of leather from his harness.
"Your behavior is most suspicious, and betrays your words of loyalty," Seagal says. "Now, I'd like some straight answers to some simple questions, if you please."
Still speaking softly, 'Nasan quickly takes command:
"You both serve Effington now, and I am he. My decoy is being held prisoner upstairs and we need to rescue him, but first we need a stronger show of force.
"As I said, take my staff-- and you: loosen these bonds. No, don't untie me yet, I just need it loose enough to slip out at will.
"We'll deal with Thalathaw another time-- if that is his real name. Here is the plan…"
Aonghasan hastily instructs the orks as follows: They will escort him into the north tower as if he is still being held prisoner, and they will go upstairs and into the adjoining quarters. If they run into any other guards along the way, one of them will say "Seagal told us to let the prisoner stretch his legs."
'Nasan will then cast Spirit Mastery to add the other guards to his stable, but he doesn't tell them that.
[OOC: If nothing happens to derail this scheme, I'm happy if you want to move the clock forward and start the next scene in the quarters, letting me know how much mana 'Nasan had to burn to build up his entourage.]
One of the guards from the south guardroom unlocks the front gate for Salazar, allowing him into the portico. Through the closed door of the north guardroom, Aonghasan can hear Salazar berating the guard for his slowness. "How dawe you leave youw mathtew thtanding in the wain!" The guard apologizes profusely, trying to explain that they are short-handed because Seagal has a squad searching for intruders in the mines.
"Intwudewth! Whewe ith Theagal? I mutht thee him at onthe!"
Meanwhile the enthralled orc guards in the north guardroom show no surprise at Aonghasan's shocking statement. Replying "We hear and obey, Lord Effington," the thralls do his bidding, one loosening his bonds while the other grabs his staff from the corner. They both arm themselves with short swords and escort the loremaster into the north tower.
Once in the north tower, after the guards parrot the excuse suggested to them by 'Nasan, the wizard again casts Spirit Mastery. The scene is repeated on the second level of the north tower. Exiting the tower, Aonghasan and his foursome of orkish guards finds themselves in Seagal's quarters.
Seagal’s room looks like a Japanese dojo. A simple woven rice mat is rolled up in one corner, and there are paper screens here and there around the room. It looks like most of the room is dedicated to martial arts practice. There is also a meticulously clean desk and a wardrobe.
[Bookkeeping: 'Nasan burns 12 WIZ casting Spirit Mastery two more times, and regains 1 WIZ. He nets 30 AP toward WIZ]

Aonghasan instructs his entourage as follows: "Now, we must enlist my ogre guards and free the mock-Effington from Seagal. Because of this disguise, they won't recognize me as their master."
Examining his minions with disgust, he picks the fiercest-looking among them: "You-- when you knock upon the door of my quarters, I want you to repeat this message to the ogres:
"Your master needs you in the dining room, now! I saw Seagal give him a drug that turned his mind to mud. Seagal is trying to have him hung before sundown. Let's go! Tear Seagal's arms off! Pull out his gizzard and we'll feast upon his corpse! Your master needs you in the dining room, now! Kill the human! Kill the human!
"...and so forth. I'm sure you can think of further pleasantries that you'd use to muster your comrades to arms and whip them into frenzy. Keep it quiet. We need the ogres to hear you, but we don't want to warn Seagal until we are upon him."
Once satisfied that he can repeat the message in substance, 'Nasan addresses them all:
"Seagal is our enemy, and he must die.First, you cross the hall to fetch the ogres. Second, Snaga here will repeat the message. The ogres may be quick to wrath, and if they rush out, you will not stand in their way-- you will follow! After second†, you hurry to the dining room to rescue the mock-Effington.
[†: "After second"-- in case the orkish tongue doesn't have a concept of numbers higher than two. Like "hrair" in Lapine.]
"'Our lives for Lord Effington' is your battle cry. If the mock-Effington is bound or gagged, do not untie him until I give the order. You may subdue Hrruuukkk Ptui, Roz, or your captain if they fight you or try to protect Seagal. Kill them only if you must.
"I will remain here until after you rouse the ogres, and I'll follow you then."
Aonghasan makes sure that each ork can repeat the three-step plan, and then sees to it that they are ready:
"If anyone has to use the potty, do it now," he says, pointing to the woven rice mat. "Now is everyone set? Okay, go."

Two of the uruk guards take a moment to urinate noisily on Seagal's bedroll, then they put Aonghasan's plan into action.
Snaga crosses the hallway to Effington's quarters, summoning the Effing Ogres with a convincing cry of alarm. The two ogres bust the door off its hinges in their haste to rescue their master. They pound up the stairs to the dining room with the four orc guards close behind. All six are crying "Our lives for Lord Effington!" as they rush into the room.
In the room, Effington remains bound as he is still trying to stammer out answers to Seagal's questions. Seagal, Roz, Hrruuukkk Ptui and the Orc Captain all look up in surprise as the unlikely group of attackers charge in.
Many things begin to happen at the same time:
Seagal leaps up onto the dining room table and whips out his katana. Although unarmored, he proves difficult to hit. He ducks under sword thrusts from the orc guards and flips completely over a mighty haymaker from one of the Effing Ogres. His katana is a blur as he makes economical thrusts and slashes at his attackers. He delivers a powerful roundhouse kick to the head of one of the orc guards heading toward Roz. (Seagal does 90 damage + 3 spite, his defense this round is 8. Seagal takes 9 hits)
Roz sits there like a bowl of slimy jelly, but as soon as the attackers enter she begins to hurl insults at them. Painful insults. Insults that really hurt. "If it weren't for pickpockets, you'd have no sex life!" she shouts at one guard. "If brains were dynamite, you couldn't blow your nose! she screams at another. (Roz does 9 damage of pure spite from the insults, takes 26 damage. Her corrosive slime begins to ruin the effectiveness of two of the orc guards swords.)
Hrruuukkk Ptui draws his broadsword and kukri and engages one of the orc guards, but catches a backhand blow from one of the Effing ogres. As he fights, he turns to Effington and snarls, "I knew you would betray Salazar one day, you lying fiend!" (HP does 53 damage with 1 spite, takes 8 hits)
The orc captain shouts at his guards, "Stand down! Stand down, I say!", but the guards continue fighting as they shout to pledge their lives to Lord Effington. He is forced to defend himself with his sabre and fights trying to keep the orc guards away from Effington. (The orc captain puts up 50 damage with 3 spite, and takes 12 hits)
As the battle continues, it is clear that the Effing Ogres and the ensorcelled guards have an advantage in numbers and strength against Salazar's lieutenants. (The Effing Ogres and orc guards do a total of 283 damage with 9 spite, and take a total of 16 spite damage)
Bound in the chair, Effington begins to attempt to cast a defensive spell, but is unable to stutter out the needed words. He quickly realizes that he may want to hold back any action until he is sure which side is winning.

As the mutineers thunder up the stairs, Aonghasan slips out of his bonds and crosses the hallway unseen into Effington's bedchamber, his eyes scanning for a washbasin and wardrobe, or anything else of interest.

Effington's quarters are light and airy. There is a comfortable hammock hung in a corner painted to look like forest. There is a washbasin and ewer and a cake of soap there. Also a wardrobe containing Effington's spare clothes. His work area is at the other end of the room. On his desk is a framed photograph of Salazar.
Aonghasan gazes ravenously at the clear water, still quivering in the basin from the ruckus: "Seven thousand three hundred excruciating seconds I have struggled to keep my composure and maintain a pleasant disposition," he says, sinking his cupped hands into the cool water and washing the mud from his face, hair, and hands.
He momentarily abandons himself to the rapture as the crisp water touches his face, finding himself in a another time and place-- a place beyond time, perhaps, or a time beyond locality. With his hand mirror, he inspects his teeth, brushes his hair before tossing it over one eye in characteristic fashion, and then spritzes himself with a raspberry-scented perfume. He lets out a deep sigh of relief, then steels himself again for the situation at hand.
[What does Salazar look like? What clothes are in the wardrobe?]
