Aah , but the more dice involved on both sides the greater chance of a spread of results between the two sides.
Plus good old spite can always break through the stalemate, and stunts of course.
But its all a matter of taste of course. If you dislike buckets of dice then Hogscapes excellent revised 4e rules are just the thing.

Hmm, couldn't you just do unarmed as a 1D3+adds?
Or have unarmed combat count as "Subduing" instead of lethal combat, of course many fictional warriors are nearly as lethal without weapons as they are with.

Perhaps he'll chime in, but I seem to recall that, since he uses 4th ed., Order99 does d2 for unarmed combat damage.

My understanding (and I'm usually wrong) is that everything got bumped up to account for unarmed fighters using one die. Crazy. Yep, that's it exactly.

Yep, we use D2 plus Adds-and when Berserking, a Natural '6' on the die roll starts the extra die effect, with Doubles from there. In some variants, the Warriors get 1d3+ Adds, more for he flavor than any significant effect... And yep, I should have said 'one or less D6' for Weapons. Oops.

After all these years I should really go ahead and make a personalized "House-Rules" document.
Maybe I just like keeping my players guessing! ;D
