... such as a Ring of Indestructibility which conveys no special abilities to the wearer but is itself absolutely impervious to damage. I recently watched the movie 127 Hours. I can definitely see a use for such a ring. Not to mention, pull it off your finger and stick it in a doorway or hinge and you've guaranteed that the door won't lock behind you. I had similar thoughts when I read this. That's the fun of magic items like this- its a chance to stump the GM!

Where abouts in the UK are you BigJack? South Manchester. I'm not a local (originally from Staffordshire) but moved here after returning from living in the States some years ago.

...might we arrange a game? I'd love to, but I can't guarantee I'll be able to attend: the UK Games Expo is in Birmingham a fortnight later and I'll be travelling down for that... might not be able to do both. I'll look into it.

* is envious of the density of T & T players in the UK * ('density' in the sense of numbers, not in the maligning of intelligence sense, of course. ) Heh heh... good recovery there I suspect that a lot of it is down to quirks of publishing back in the late seventies and eighties. RuneQuest was similarly very popular here due to Games Workshop importing and then printing it. T&T may not have made a huge impact under its Strategy Games incarnation, but I remember seeing the Chris Harvey and, later, Corgi editions all over the place. On top of that we're a relatively compact country, so it's not too difficult to make a trip if there's a game in the offing, schedule allowing.

Having locally printed editions would certainly have helped (especially if the spelling was corrected so that all of the missing 'u's were restored ), but we have less than one third of the UK's population in a country not that much smaller than the continental US, which means that T & T players tend to be thin on the ground. For example, the closest players that I know of to me are Hogscape (2 1/2 day drive or a 3 - 4 hour flight) and Quoghmyre (about a 4 hour flight, and in a different country). There may be others closer, but I don't know them and they are in any case few and far between...

Here is the States, we use up all our Us shouting "USA! USA! USA!" There literally weren't enough left over for "color", "flavor", or "honor". And our throats are sore.
