Hey guys. I made a post of this on the Google+ community, but I wanted to repeat it here for those of you who aren't using G+.
Years ago, I created the Track n' Troll character generation/tracking software because I wanted a program for playing solos. It also does dice rolls and combat as well as character advancement. It was first written in Visual Basic 6, then ported to RealBasic. There's also a port to MacOS by Quoghmyre (I don't see him in the member list here, but he's a regular over at TrollBridge - trollbridge.proboards.com ).
I believe it's still in use, but I've been wanting to make a newer version - one that won't be limited to a PC. And I'd like the new incarnation to be on Android.
T&T has a passionate and friendly community, so I wanted to ask you all for a favor. I'm wanting to know which edition of the rules I should target with the first version. The original Track n' Troll was written for v5/5.5 (with a few extra things tossed in like spite), but there have been some fairly big rule changes since then. My goal is to allow the choice of rules per campaign, but I want to target a single ruleset for the first attempt.
Like the first version of Track n' Troll, I couldn't have finished it without help from the T&T community. I'd like to hear your ideas and desires so that I can hopefully make something that will be useful in this age of smartphones and tables.
So, what say you?
Update (taken from later in the thread):
Don't click the link below just yet. Please read the following notes.
1. this program is currently ugly
2. there's a lot of information on some screens so it might be crowded
3. certain screens may be deformed on your device, just let me know (see form link below)
4. seriously...it might have all the controls bunched up in one spot in the middle of your screen. let me know!
5. full combat handling is not in yet
6. monsters (MR-style) are not (yet) included as standalone assets but I've started laying the foundation for them (side note: you can create fully-stated monsters by making a character and then checking the "Character is a monster" checkbox on the "Info" panel. On the Campaign screen, they are denoted with a "(!)" following the character name)
7. not every option in the Campaign Options screen is enabled yet (some will make sense when the full combat is in)
8. changes are not saved unless you save them (with some exceptions: creating or deleting a character/asset is immediate)
9. By default, the app starts up a non-intrusive notification in your pulldown window. this keeps the app from being killed randomly by Android. when you exit the app (either by using the back button on your phone to exit all the way out, or if you go to the first screen and choose "Exit" from the settings menu) the notification will disappear
10. uninstalling the app will delete all your work. so be careful. (you can probably manually back up the database by saving everything in Android/data/com.exspecto.trackntroll/Files)
Ok. Here we go!
Please fill out the form if you run into any problems or have suggestions/requests: form here
And...here's the apk ---> Track n' Troll (alpha) - you'll probably need to enable the "unknown sources" in your Security settings to install this
