The GM of the group I just joined said that his old group in New Hampshire got to know each other so well and grew to trust each other so much, they stopped using dice altogether. I want to aspire to that. I doubt I ever will, though; I just can't seem to stay in a campaign that long. This new one doesn't have that potential, either. It's a real shame, too. I have the perfect personality for diceless combat. You can trust me to take my lumps with great enthusiasm.

No dice? Where's the sport in that? I'll take my role-playing with steak thanks. No fo-fu flavoured dicesless role-playing for me.

Bucket o Dice!!! That's right, give me a bucket load! The sound they make as they clank against each other, the eratic movement as they roll across the table, the sheer suspense as you watch, fearing one might fall off the table, rolling under the heater, never to be found again! Oh yeah, baby...Bucket o Dice!

I'm more like a geek-in-training with a gamer fetish. Or a groupie! Yeah. But no matter how I try, I can't get myself to think like that. (Actually, if we're going for labels with accuracy, I'll take either 'worldbuilder' or 'storyteller'. Which doesn't explain what I'm doing here... oh well, labels are worth nothing anyway.)

Gotta agree with Hogscape here, I love dice. There's nothing like it as GM when you see your over-confident friend rolling an easy 'min-5' and a 2 - 1 coming up! Marvellous!
I have to add however that in high-level games with huge monsters, I average the score instead of rolling hundreds of dice. I personally prefer low-level games with first-third level PCs, it's more of a challenge for the players and more fun for the GM IMHO.

Last Tuesday saw the return to T&T for a friend of mine after a 20-year drought. You should have seen the look of glee on his face as he counted out his dice and picked out the sixes. He was a 50-year old To-fu gamer but he just couldn't resist a bit of steak!

I really don't get the to-fu/steak metaphor. I also don't get my new gaming group's fixation on pizza. Guys, it's just pizza! You can get it on any corner in most cities, and in any small town. It's as big a franchise business as hamburgers. It's just not THAT exciting. Of course, I can say that because I make a Sicilian so good that Brooklyn natives have died and gone to heaven in my kitchen. (Not to boast or anything.)
Hmm, that's gotta be it. As a writer, I don't get dice, just like as an Italian cook, I don't get Domino's.
(However, I won't touch tofu. I'd much rather work with steak.)
