Tumnac frowns dubiously at where I'm planning to send you, and more so at depends on results.
"Yer not making it sound appealing at all, are ye?" he grumbles. "If you want somethin' done, that's all fer the good. Tell us what it is, plain and simple like, and tell us what you'll pay."

[quote author=" doctorx" This task requires a degree of subtlety, not a bunch of armour-plated idiots kicking down doors and waving broadswords. The poorer you look, the better." [/quote] "It never hurts to ask now does it?" Nebless says cooly.

Marish: "Do you know The Black Cockrel? That's your target." Thinking hard, Nebless trys to remember all he's heard about the place.

Tumnac sucks his teeth as he tries to place the name. Has he ever seen or heard the name before..? Or heard rumour of such?

Common Room, Dragon's Eye InnFlick follows the conversation back and forth from Marish to his companions. A thought slowly coalesces in the little wizard's mind. Is this all because I came to Kendor...? The faerie shakes the thought from his mind. No... Marish mentioned a rival guild... Rivals mean cross-purposes... We just happened to trip over their games...Flick looks at Marish, "Thank you for your concern, sir," He offers a slight bow, "I endeavor to keep a low profile though it is difficult to avoid causing a stir when the mere sight of one excites folk. What Banoc says is true, they protected my companion and I from what I am sure would have been a rather uncomfortable plucking by a group of rag-a-muffin miscreants." Flick sighs slightly, "Unless I miss my guess, we've drawn their attention haven't we? Both through the initial altercation as well as the harrowing," here he shudders, "meeting with those running from the smoke-and-shadow kin." Flick looks Marish in the eye and asks plainly, "What do you know of this torc, sir? I would swear I heard rustling wings from it while I slept last night. This concerns me. If we are to put ourselves in harms way to recover the artifact I believe it fair to ask after the details of such a device before we unwittingly place more souls in harms way."

Hearing Flick's question, Master Ho tells to himself that he could not have put it in a better way.

"The torc has been described as 'a gateway'," says Marish; "And, as far as we have been given to understand, one that should remain closed."
"Beyond that, we know little. Coin passed hands. Part of the cost was discretion."
"Wings?" he continues, a perplexed frown drawing across his features; "As far as we know, nothing should be able to come through so long as the d**n thing stays broken, which it seemingly has. Did anything else occur when you - er - took possession - that was... odd?"

Has he ever seen or heard the name before..? Or heard rumour of such? Tumnac: L3LKSR. Dice roll: 6 + 5 + LK 14 = 25. Failure! AP gained: 33.Tumnac, being new in town, knows nothing of the Black Cockrel. Our doughty Watch-Dwarf, on the other hand... Nebless: L1LKSR. Dice roll: 1 + 4 + LK 13 = 18. Failure. AP gained: 5.... knows little more, beyond the fact that the Cockrel is a tavern of somewhat-dubious repute on Shadow Lane to the South-East, close by the sea wall. It is said to be a den of thieves and a good place to fence stolen goods. But truth to tell, that's said about a lot of the drinking holes in this town. Including the one he's currently sitting in, in fact...

"In short, you're new in town, you're little known, you're un-aligned and you're in need of coin," he continues to one and all; "Just the sort of people who wouldn't look out of place where I'm planning to send you, if you're willing." "How much coin?" he adds, looking at Tumnac now; "That depends on results, doesn't it?" "Little known? That's a matter of debate these days in my opinion. But, I am willing if the pay is right. Who couldn't use a bit more coin? Kendor is a pricey place. If we can put one over on the good Captain, all the better." "Now we just need a way out of here and to this Black Cockrel. Is there someone we should be looking for there?"

Marish gives a satisfied nod and a sly smile.
"Very well. Those of you who are free of the Watch's gaze, go forth and buy what supplies you need."
He chucks a small leather purse onto the table.
"Here; a token of my trust."
"When you are supplied as you might wish, assemble here this evening. We shall proceed from there."

De Morsac, who had remained silent so far, casually takes the purse and checks its content.

De Morsac sees fifty shiny gold coins staring back at him! "50 gold coins to equip ourselves suitably? You must be joking! Why don't you give me a trident instead, and a better suit of armor?"

Mel the elf looks visibly irritated.
"I'm not sure we need this one," she murmurs to Marish, glaring at de Morsac; "Can I hurt him?"
