Random plucks his dagger out of the door, whilst doing a two-step around the fallen rocks in the way. Ready to proceed, he says, "This reminds me of a song I once learned during my years in the Conservatory of the Moaning Tenor, Scambo Scatterbrains. I would sing it, but it rambles on and on." He laughs at his own joke, because, well, no one else will.
Khloemar casts Omnipotent Eye on the silver shard (ST-3; 5ap). The strength of the magic worked into the shard is beyond anything he can imagine and therefore, undeterminable to him. He also discovers there is more than one spell worked into the shard; in fact, it seems to contain a confusing collection of spells swirling over one another. The only one he can distinguish from the "magic soup" is Knock Knock.
Khloemar's ST=11; Staff 28/36
The laughter from Random's joke dies down so quickly that a fly on the wall may wonder if it even began.
Khloemar tucks away the silver shard, as Zagnar organizes the group into its marching order. Together, the band proceeds through the archway to the east.
The light from Runkild's torch and, it's soon revealed, the light from a yellow fungus growing on the ceiling about forty feet above, pierces the dark and gloom. The party has entered a massive room.
Roughly a hundred feet long and fifty feet wide, the "room" is split into two halves by a suspension bridge that runs for thirty feet over a dark body of water twenty-five feet below the level of the room. The bridge itself is about three feet wide--not wide enough for two people to walk across shoulder to shoulder--and offers no handrail of any sort. It's comprised of loose wooden slats.
On the other side of the bridge, to the east, an iron ladder leads down into the water. There is an also a wooden door to the east, on a landing on the other side of the bridge. You cannot walk around the body of water. The only exit from the room appears to be the wooden door. To get there, each person will have to walk across the bridge.
(Khaghtchan) Winip offers his rope but nods to Zagnar and says, "I think that's a good idea. Let's not miss things out. It appears that anything we miss may cause us severe regret later on. Anyway, dwarves are tough, are they not?"
OOC: I assume that Malutassial is back to full ST by now?
Mal cast his last spell on page 4, post 1 of Chap. III. His "fully recovered ST" statement appeared on post 1, page 1 of Chap. IV
This is a good time to remind everyone: If you're uncertain where you stand, check the GM Scratchpad. It's updated EVERY TIME there is a change in a character's possessions, attributes, etc.,which is to say it's updated almost daily.
Khloemar searches for secret doors while Zagnar ties the rope around his waist. With everyone holding the rope, except Khloemar, Zagnar proceeds across the rickety bridge. Tense moments ensue, as the burly dwarf takes heavy, yet tentative steps on old and worn-out wooden slats. There are gaps in the bridge; through them, Zagnar sees movement in the water below. Choppy black water bubbles and unidentifiable creatures, inhabitants of this peculiar body of water show their odd, fishy faces.
If Zagnar suffers from vertigo or the slightest amount of acrophobia, it could spell his doom. AND THEN IT HAPPENS--Zagnar makes it safely across the bridge. And Khloemar finds no secret doors.
One by one, the rest of the party ties the rope around their waist and walks across the bridge, gathering together on the far side near the door. Rochin del Graz is the last party member to attempt the journey. The massive human mercenary must weigh 250 pounds, and with his glowing scarlet armor and gear another fifty pounds, easily, has to be added to his total weight.
Three-hundred pounds walking across that bridge? Does the party try anything different to accommodate Rochin's weight?
<Zagnar>: Rochin can send his weapons/equipment across first (via rope line). That should free up a good amount weight. We make sure everyone is holding the rope and we keep it tight, so he won't have far to fall and certainly won't fall into the wicked water.
Then back into marching order (after a secret door search) on this new side.
