I plane here to record for all eternity (or at least until the end times begin and we all have to go back to pen and paper) the exploits of my group of heroes, the Ragged Company.
These are a group I am taking through solo adventures, either apart or, preferably, together. They are only two adventures in but already I feel like many of them are developing characters of their own, way beyond what I gave them. Some of them are definitely going to make their way to Kaliss-Morr and will feature in a solo as an NPC.
Crotch the Barbarian is in his third or fourth incarnation, the others died miserably. The other five characters were created for the solo campaign.
1. A Day in Baru-Kesh
Ezekial the Elf hails from Baru-Kesh, being part of the maligned elf community. He enjoyed an eventful day where he kicked a lizard-man's buttocks, then used the prize money to enter The Run. Being nimble and fast he dodged through the throng, and although he was tiring by the end made it to the arena. He forced his way to the center, putting an opponent in his grave, and was justly covered in money and glory.
That night while enjoying his new found wealth in a tavern he got talking to Bert the Halfling. Bert had also been pottering round the city, but being a poor stranger had not had enough money to join the run. Ezekial took to Bert and the pair decided to sign up to the Khazan Death Host in search of adventure.
2. Overkill
Khazan was signing up everyone and anyone in its campaign against Khosht and Knor. With his shiny new armor (bought with his winnings) Ezekial was put in charge of a rag-tag squad of green horns, quickly named The Ragged Company by the more veteran fellows.
Krunch or more properly Prince Krunch had come from the Kurtish Plains. He was the eldest son and heir of a tribe of Uruks. However Krunch's mother was human and Krunch himself was considered somewhat effete by Uruk standards.
Crotch the Barbarian also hailed from the Kurtish Plains, the relationship between huans and uruks here is tense to say the least, and this carried over to Crotch and Krunch. The uruks and goblins have been unusually active in the Kurtish Plains and Crotch's village had suffered a number of attacks. Most of the survivors fled to Kalliss-Morr for safety. Crotch, disliking city life, hit the road to see where the wind would take him.
Elmo the Goblin grew up in a small fishing clan. He was always different and when but a nipper was taken under the wing of the clan shaman. He took to magic like a sea-goblin to water and quickly learnt all the shaman could teach him. The shaman knew that to progress Elmo would need to go out into the wide world and learn magic from new and varied sources, but Elmo was a quiet type and reluctant to leave. The Shaman killed a clan elder with horrible magicks and framed Elmo for the murder, forcing him to flee.
Darren the Half-Elf is something of a mystery. He is quiet, verging on sullen, and has not yet opened up to the rest of the group.
The Ragged Company where chosen (who knows why) to complete an assassination mission. They botched this good and proper. Making a clumsy entrance they were quickly pursued and got them self lost in the labyrinthine fortress. Here the found all sorts of trouble. [They had to make 16 rolls on the Random Monster Table and managed to get 8 enconuters, yes they rolled 50% 1s.] After fighting off 4 human guards, 2 skeletons, 2 cyclops a Naga and a centuar they emerged into deadlight.
They had failed to avert the battle and the Khazan Death Host were mostly dead. Skrag, their captain confronted them and wanted to know what the hell they had been doing and why they had fistfuls of gems. This quickly descended into a fight, and even though The Ragged Company were no match for an angry Skrag Elmo cast Oh Go Away! and while Skrag was running one direction they quickly hot footed it in the other.
