Anyone knows if T&T was somewhat inspired by roguelikes ? In T&T 7 an creature named "The Oracle" lives on level 6 (as far as i remember.) There is exactly the same creature in Nethack (located between levels 5 and 9 of the Dungeons of Doom), with the same kind of powers. as a T&T and RLs fan i would like to know. PS: sorry for my bad english.

I'm pretty sure that T & T predates all of the Rogue-like games. Rogue comes from 1980, and T & T hit its 5th edition in 1979, so I think that it's just a coincidence.

Maybe Oracle appeared in an old solo, previous to Nethack and thus inspired this RL, or maybe Ken St Andre played Nethack between 5th and 7th edition. I'm just curious about that.

the idea of "the oracle" is pretty widespread and goes back thousands of years. i'd think it more likely that both incarnations of an oracle you mention, crypt, are inspired by ancient mediterranean traditions than anything else.

I do not speak only about the simple idea of an oracle. imho it's not unlikely that someone who made a dungeon crawling P&P RPG also plays or played dungeon crawling CRPGs. and, remember, T&T Oracle dungeon level is the same in NH. thus i think the link between this two games (they also have humorous mood in common !) is highly probable (whatever the former is, i don't care about the chronology, i simply speak about mutual influence) Please, simply ask Ken St Andre if he plays roguelikes when you meet him

perhaps you are correct, but i still think it is more of a case of two people/groups interested in the fantasy genre drawing independently from the same sources. i have no plans on seeing ken to ask him, having never met him, but if i ever do i certainly shall ask him.
