You lay into the creature, its moans piercing. Your attacks reduce the creature to a crumbly pile of bones. You knock out the glowing object before the creature falls. As you make contact with it, you feel briefly smarter, although that goes away the moment you've knocked it away. It still sits glowing a few yards away.

Vol wonders for a moment and then decides faint heart never served fair or unfair ladies, so she retrieves it and crosses her fingers...

You grab it and the feeling of intelligence takes more shape. You feel as if you have the knowledge of all the cosmos at your disposal, but you also feel you can only access it once. The exit portal appears.

Vol sucks in a breath and feels excited but a tthe same time almost hopes she will never need to call upon it... She thinks of it as being akin to the fabled 'Deus ex machina' gem from the story about the king who swappped his kingdom for a horse, only to find that the horse was allergic to kings.

You emerge into a large cave. Statues abound, and there are several motionless skeletons in various states of decay, all holding swords. You hear clicking and wet rending sounds coming from somewhere nearby.

I attempt to hide and then identify what's going on, moving as stealthily as possible.

The cover seems to consist mainly of statues and the oddly sharp bends in the tunnels. Make an L1-SR on IQ to try to track down the sound.

You are able to track down the sound. Peeking around a corner, you see a fairly small lizard tearing up the corpse of a huge bear. The lizard has a small gash on its side, while the only wound on the bear is where the lizard is chewing its way to the bear's heart.

That lizard looks bad news, Vol thinks.
Seeing the gash in its side, she guesses maybe something other than the bear is nearby too.
While the lizard is feeding, she continues to scout cautiously.
If she finds nothing, she will take the best cover she can and see what the lizard does when it finishes with the corpse.

You scout around, keeping an ear out for the fleshy sounds to stop as your signal to stop. The rest of the caves contains more statues and skeletons holding swords. Finding nothing else, you return to your vantage points. The rending sound eventually stops, replaced by the clicking as the lizard turns away from the bear corpse and starts wandering around, trying to identify a new scent. Make an L2-SR on IQ.

You notice that the lizards eyes are closed, which seems to be detrimental to its movement as it moves towards you. It seems to have found your scent and will be on you soon.
