Right. Vol will buy a change of clothing, get new provisions and generally set herself up for more adventuring. Then she will have a big night out with the girls and treat herself to a nice room and a massage.

You feel refreshed after your night out. You enter the portal and emerge in the square of a different village. A crier is standing in the middle of the square on a very fancy platform. "Thank you all for your help in our recent battle. Now is the time to rebuild. Everyone must help. You will be compensated for your work, and I assure you the work will hurt you less than the guards will. The signup stand is over there, and the guards are sweeping the town as we speak. Thank you all again."

At the signup stand, you see two signs, one labeled "Prestigious", the other "Mundane". The "Prestigious" sign lists scrap gathering, wreckage clearing, construction, and smiths' assistant, among others. There is quite a press of people clamoring for that list. "Mundane" is not surprisingly much more open, given the listings you can see of, among others, blood cleaning, corpse retrieval, animal carcass testing and disposal, and fertilizer duty for new crops.
Vol walks up to the person sorting out the workers at the "Mundane" sign.
"Look, I'm not so modest that I don't think I couldn't make a difference over there - she points to the other sign - but maybe the need is more pressing here. Your call, good sir. Will you have me work here or over there?"
The woman running "Scrap Gathering" calls out "If my list is filled first, I get a bonus! I'll kick back a percentage to the person who signs this last name." If you wish to go for it, make an L2-SR on STR to fight through the crowd that is swarming her. Otherwise, you can choose any of the other prestigious careers, randomly chosen.
You press past the crowd and sign your name on the form. "Woo-hoo!" cries the attendant. "10% and a free round once you finish. Meet me at the Unctuous Unicorn later!"
The work is hard. Between cuts on sharp edges, all the lifting, and a bout of extremely-rapid-onset tetanus, you take damage equal to half your current CN, rounded down. At the end, you show up for your pay, which is 2d6 DARO gp. I will let you roll for it.

Assuming you want to go to the Unctuous Unicorn, you see the recruiter. She orders a decent beer of your choice, and flips you a gp. "The treasury's a bit tight after the war." The exit portal appears.

You step through the portal, and arrive in a marketplace. There is nobody in sight anywhere, but the market seems in good repair. Suddenly, a person pushing a cart appears out of a portal. You can make out a weird shape on top of the cart, but no other details.
