Hey, folks,
In a recent thread it was mentioned that there doesn't appear to be a map scale on the Trollworld maps. Several stalwart trolls offered creative carto-mathemagical interpretations of existing resources but it doesn't seem there's a specific answer (Hey, it's T&T - that's not a design flaw it's a system feature!). The closest I've seen is this post over on the dT&T blog where sscrompton posts a statement indicating that Trollworld is 33,000 miles in circumference. I'll interpret that to mean it's 33,000 miles around the equator (I'm going to ignore planetary geology which speaks to ovoid shapes rather than perfect spheres). There's a companion post over here where sscrompton mentions that only one side of Trollworld is officially mapped leaving the other side of the world a blank canvas for the aspiring GM to terraform to their hearts content. Kinda seems to me that the Many-Worlds aspect of Trollworld has been mapped-without-being-mapped. Heck, I recall reading (A Fragmentary Chronology of Trollworld, Part 2) where Ken has stated there are dimensional gates in Trollworld and that there is movement through them. Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen bridge For The Win (This is what happens when a dwarven engineer, an gremlin experimental spellcaster and a hobb cartographer have a few too many pints - "It Comes in Pints?!" - in the local tavern and talk shop...)! I rather liked Mormonyoyoman's suggestion that there could be inherent difficulty with land based distances/cartography in Trollworld as cartographers may accidentally step through a portal to an alternate Trollworld and not realize it at the time. A rather interesting campaign could be developed out of that: a planes-jumpers meet adventure-cartographers theme (I almost shudder to think what order99 's group would do with that).
At any rate, if you run a search in your favorite search engine using the string > map site:deluxetunnelsandtrolls.wordpress.com < you'll find all sorts of posts that could be fun to work with.
So, here's your invitation: What do you find intriguing about the Trollworld maps? What do you envision is on the 'dark-side of the planet'? Is there anything you would like to add to spin the setting for your own use?
