I hope to put together a game of dT&T. I've toyed with the idea of running 5.5 since I've ready from several folks that is the best version. However, it is all new to me. Reading and comparing 5.5 with my shiny KS hardcopy of dT&T yields only minor rules differences but gameplay seems pretty similar to me. So, my questions: - Have you run both games?
- Which do you like better as referee?
- Which do you like better as a player?
- General thoughts about either?
- Or comparisons of the two?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give. I hope I'm not asking too much of you fellow gamers.

Despite their vast number of 'samenesses' there are several important differences. To be honest, I don't care much for 5.5 in comparison with 7.5 (or dT&T). If I had to pick just one reason, it would the 1,3 SR fail in 5.5. In later version, only 1,2 is an automatic fail. The odds of a 1,2 are one in eighteen - that's quite enough without jacking it up over the one in ten mark.

If you are starting fresh and "in-charge" of learning the rules for all your group I would just bite the bullet and use dT&T. A lot of us talk about 5th (and 5.5) because it was what we played for soooo long. But the core game is pretty much the same. The 5th Edition was an easy read, no really, it was one of the best edited rulebooks ever.

I usually run 5th or 7.5 but I'm about to kick off a deluxe game. I suppose deluxe offers you a more modular experience - you can add new rules as you go. Plus, in deluxe your characters tend to be a tad more powerful since there are no negative adds.

It's always fascinating to hear other people's take on our great game and their preferences. I actually prefer 5/5.5 because of the minimum 5 for a SR. Much greater scope for disaster(s) and enhanced game play, though I only regard a 1,2 as a fumble.

My mates and I all backed the deluxe Kickstarter and have the rulebooks but we still fall back on 5/5.5 as a matter of course. In your shoes, I would get my hardback rules and GM screen out along with vast quantities of D6s and just go for it
