I'd interpret it as you have, jeffb, except that they don't include their adds. So your example orc would roll 7 dice to try to beat 40. And they only get to roll the dice again a la DARO if they all come up the same number.

Looking over the relevant text, 1st ed. pg 13, I'd agree with your base computation, JeffB, with one clarification: adds are only used for combat rolls, not for Saving Rolls. So, your orc with an MR of 60 would need to roll 7d6 against a target number of 40, yes. If all the dice come up the same number, those add and roll over.
Edit - Saw Mahrundl's post after I drafted mine. Nice to know we're on the same page
I'll have the deep-fried battered pixie with balrog dipping sauce and a Hobgoblin ale.
Thanks to everyone. I was thinking "dice + adds", because if you take my example, the possibility of the Orc making the save without addswould be very very slim. Max roll of 42 possible on 7 dice alone (not sure what the odds of "DARO" would be, but also guessing mighty slim). Maybe that was Ken's intention, I guess we will find out!
With Adds, It's probably too easy. Without, too hard.
I might houserule it- Dice + Dice in adds I.e. 7D+7 adds.
IIRC, Khaboom mentioned a working time-line of a Spring release though I'd have to re-read the thread to make sure I haven't missed anything. We're still about a month out from the time-frame Khaboom mentioned being able to dedicate more focus to the project. Feel free to ramble through that thread and, if the muse moves you, offer some assistance to Khaboom or maybe an article or a piece of artwork.
ETA: Ack! I didn't see Khaboom's response before I posted mine. I'll leave the post above since it has the link to the active thread in it.
