I ordered this from the Flying Buffalo web site. Shipping ended up being $23 to Canada so I asked if they could include the PDF, but no go on that.
Still excited for the book. With exchange and shipping it's pretty expensive but hopefully worthwhile.

Is this the same product as T&T Japan Adventures?
If so, I love it. I only have the PDF, but the first thing I did was print out the cult solo adventure.

Yeah, I think so. I already have the Free RPG version but I'm interested in the GM adventure. I don't really play solo adventures outside of metaarcade.
I also don't own a real rulebook, just PDFs. If I can't find one, I'll do Lulu or something. I can't find a PDF of 5.5 but may just play 1e.
Anyway, we'll see what the Japan book brings. It's too bad they won't include the PDF with a print purchase. The reason given was that they don't have the technology to do it. I guess someone else sells the DTRPG/OBS copy.
So I'll game this weekend with some friends with what I have so far. Free RPG Japan and Naked Doom.

I can't find a PDF of 5.5 but may just play 1e. I won't dissuade you from playing 1st edition—it's a very interesting game! But you can get the 5th edition PDF here. 5.5 is virtually identical to this scan of the 5th edition PDF. The only difference I know of is a short appendix including some house rules, the Buffalo Castle solo adventure, and other supplemental material. There must be a thread around here that lays out all the additional material, but it's nothing I have ever needed at the table.

I would say of the optional rules, spite damage is the main one worth considering.

I will say I've decided I like WIZ and SPD; these are being added to my first T&T campaign ... if I ever run a game! Why? (Question from someone new, not a poke) Wizardry I sort of get but what use is it to Warriors? I could just average the 6 attributes for a magic points amount for spellcasters, maybe add something per level of Wizard that Rogues don't get? I can see it doesn't hurt. Speed? More combat adds..... I'd feel bad if a player put a high roll in Speed and I never think to use it in a session. Eg. Naked Doom is heavily weighted toward Dex and Luck. The more I read 1e, the more I like it. Which makes sense even as per my usage of TOG. The older I get the simpler I like the rules. That said, I house rule TOG a lot as well which sometimes contradicts the previous "simple" sentence. So even with 1e I'd probably use Spite. I suspect as another poster mentioned that my players would prefer dT&T but for this weekend I think now I'll use the rules in the Free Japan one as the character creation won't confuzzle any player with fractions. I do have the full Japan one coming someday from Flying Buffalo. Probably minus Speed and Wizardry. 1e is a fun read. The app has given me tons of entertainment already. I've also run my own rendition of Buffalo Castle and Naked Doom for a single player to figure things out. I will need to see how easy I can convert from TOG1e on the fly based on posts others have made to make use of my collection of adventures.

The problem solved by Spite damage doesn't exist in 1st edition. Because the armor is ablative, stalemates in combat are exceptionally rare.
When I run 1st edition, I use Spite damage as a Warrior-only ability—plus a few outstanding monsters.

Why? (Question from someone new, not a poke) With regard to WIZ? Basically because, while it might still diminish a Wizard's STR if they overreache, a wizard won't find themselves unable to move due to the weight of their armor and inventory after casting a spell. For SPD? I basically only use it when movement rate becomes a factor, e.g. pursuit or retreat. I don't know what other uses it has but that's all I currently envision. I agree with your views on simplicity. At the same time, I see these additions as useful to the game. Let me point out I've never actually used them in play, so I may cut them after giving them a trial run. That's what I love about T&T, you can bolt on or remove rules without really breaking the game.

Japan hasn't arrived in time for the first group session. I ran a few one on ones, GMing Naked Doom (in and out of DED) and the old Buffalo Castle.
I have not run any magic yet.
So, I'm thinking of using the adventure from the 2013 preview pack - Chambers of T'Pozz.
In general I'll use the Japan Free RPG rules/Kindred adding Spite and perhaps making the Player's roll 3d6 straight instead of wasting time while they decide what # goes where. Definitely include TARO. I only have four hours total for character creation and playing the session.
I'll let them pick armour, weapons, equipment and just give them some money instead of them buying equipment. Studded Leather, Axes (except if there's a Wizard) and whatever equipment they want and maybe 100gp each.
Also remove Speed as a combat add. Maybe....
I noticed the Japan spells seemed to cost 1 more Wiz than the other rules I have. They also just add set amounts to the Kindred attributes instead of fractions. I'll keep those things.
I have no idea how they'll get through some of the Lava Curtain things in the adventure yet.
The alternative adventure is one of the one page dungeons from Black Pudding that's designed for TOG (B/X). What is it, double the monster hp for MR or 15xHD? Guess on armour. I could probably do it on the fly.

Rick did contact me back and we came to a shipping situation that works for both parties, so if everything is fulfilled, I'll be a happy fan.
