The latest update on the Elven Lords Kickstarter included some good news for MSPE fans:
Steve is also juggling multiple projects, including preparing Mercenaries, Spies, and Private Eyes for re-release by Flying Buffalo. This game was Michael Stackpole's pulp-and-modern-adventure take on the Tunnels & Trolls engine, with an extensive utilization of Skills as part of the mechanics. The game has been unavailable for some years now, and often requested to be reprinted.
FBI hinted months ago that there was going to be something happening for MSPE, but this is the first real info I've seen.

I just acquired the old version but would absolutely get in on a KS for a new one, especially if GM adventures were included.

Nice to read that they're restoring the butchered Tunnels &Thompsons section. Will Sleuth's dinosaur stats be fixed, I wonder?

I have the Sleuth edition and having second thoughts on whether I want this one. I had anticipated they'd update it and have new supplementary material. After going through Mugshots, Stormhaven and such I'm a little disappointed in the GM Adventure support.

After going through Mugshots, Stormhaven and such I'm a little disappointed in the GM Adventure support. I'll have to compare the two sections tomorrow to give you a proper description. As for adventure support, I agree it's sparse but don't overlook the adventures put out by Hero for their Danger International RPG: they included MSPE conversions in most (possibly all) and they're finally available as PDFs.

I want more information! I posted this query to the team. The description on the Kickstarter page seems to pin the product down more than the Deluxe KS. But I really thought the Deluxe T&T product would be closer to 5th edition than it turned out to be. I love my Deluxe Tome. The art archives they unlocked, plus the new art, and Steve Crompton's layout all make it beautiful to flip through. But I still feel intimidated by the huge amount of new rules content.

Certainly I read it as the existing edition with additional contents, rather than any change to the actual rules. The DT&T project was supposed to be similar, but turned into a fairly substantial redesign which was not what I expected or needed.

I want more information! I had a similar thought, Gaptooth. So, I posted this question through the KS page: And received this answer from Rick: So, I'm interpreting this as being truer to the original, source material than dT&T is to 5th Ed. The description on the KS front page seems to be pretty clear with the above clarification from Rick.

I am quite happy about that. A re-edition respecting the original but adding materials instead of changing the game, that's the best option, I think. If only T&T had been treated the same way....

Flying Buffalo announces new edition of its classic Mercenaries, Spies & Private Eyes RPG – via Kickstarter.
NEW- The Combined Edition of Mercenaries, Spies & Private Eyes - Some of you may be unfamiliar with this classic espionage Role Playing Game. Written by best-selling author Michael Stackpole back in 1983 when he was an employee of Flying Buffalo, this game is based on the Tunnels & Trolls rpg system and allows players to adventure on Earth from the 1800's to the 1990's (and beyond). It was meant to let you play in Sherlock Homes Victorian era, Indiana Jones Pulp adventures and James Bond cold war Spy missions.
Several Adventures (both for gm and solo play) were published for MSPE as it came to be known. There were two printings of the rulebook, the first edition, by Flying Buffalo and the second edition by Sleuth Publications in 1986. The books were very much the same, but there were differences. The Buffalo edition had a gorgeous color cover and painting, there was a section in the book for how to play T&T using MSPE and there was some different art and a full page character sheet. The Sleuth edition had a plain black & white cover, was missing the T&T section and had optional rules for aging, 13 pre-rolled characters (with art by Liz Danforth) a special folding character sheet, some new art and some corrections to the rules.
The original MSPE book(s) have been scanned, restored and enhanced by Flying Buffalo’s Art director Steve Crompton, who has also created some new art for the rules.
Flying Buffalo now has a Kickstarter for the printing of a combined edition of MSPE that will include the corrected rules and all the different material from both editions of MSPE collected into one book. They are also going to add new rules material, some of it by Mike Stackpole.
The rules will be printed as a trade paperback 8 x 11 inches, with a color cover and black and white interior pages. For an extra $7 you can even get your copy of the rules signed by author Michael Stackpole.
The kickstarter is active until March 26th 2019, so if you are interested, now is the time to take a look. The link to the Kickstarter is below.

NOTE: IF ANY OF YOU HAVE CORRECTIONS TO MSPE YOU KNOW OF NOW IS THE TIME TO TELL ME! POST THEM BELOW AND I WILL PUT THEM IN THE BOOK - THANKS STEVE

Combined Edition what it is: I have scanned the Sleuth Rulebook and the also scanned the cover of the buffalo edition and any pages or art that did not appear in the Sleuth edition. I made some corrections to the text to fix a couple of errors. I also am adding a couple of extra new pages about sci-fi environments and modifiers in MSPE and a 1 page piece about stopping distances of vehicles. Mike Stackpole will also be writing some additional material for the book. I do not currently know what that will consist of.
All the original art and layout will remain the same. I have renumbered the pages and updated the Index to reflect the incorporation of the Tunnels & Thompson section and a few other pages into the Sleuth edition I scanned. I scanned the Sleuth edition as my baseline as other corrections found back in 1984 and 1985 were incorporated into the Sleuth edition, making that the best version to go by.
Hope that helps?
