Today I taught a GM academy session on Discord. Just before going live, a spark of inspiration ignited and I wrote this on the chalkboard behind me: “Give thy secrets no utterance; Let fools their folly reap”—that was the maxim of the session and a fairly concise summary of what I wanted to impart.
The quote, of course, came from a longer verse from the 1975 1st edition of Tunnels & Trolls, where it is attributed to Polonius St. Andre.
30 people signed up for the session. I don't know how many people were actually online, but it was a rousing and friendly discussion. That, despite my brain dumping all the useful stuff I wanted to say and going freefall into the realm of amusing tangents. The folks who spoke up said it helped demystify the practice some, which was encouraging to hear.
