So Quogmyre had this great idea of doing a Trollszine offshoot as a starter kit for new players.
We thought things like
Pre generated characters Advice on managing core rules A short solo aimed at learning combat How to with adventure writing
Does this have legs? Does it motivate people to write stuff for it?
This would be shorter & more focused than the usual Trollszine.
Please post responses and ideas here.

I've been to a few board game nights, seem to spend an hour (or more) setting up the board and bits, getting the rules explained and then play for a couple of hours.
The idea is a TrollZine Supplement that puts TTRPG / T&T in this slot. GM reads what they need to run the game. Players get pre-cons. A few printouts, SR sheet and Spells and bam the fun begins.
Level 1 Lots of Tropes Lots of modern media in references
Sounds like fun???

Does it have legs? I think so. Essentially, pamphlets designed for a 4 hour beginner session?
The first question that occurs to me is how does this differentiate itself from the Free RPG Day rules? Are we looking to that as a template (I'm especially impressed by the Japanese version) or trying to do something a little different? Are we looking to include basic rules or is this a companion to the rules, "Now that you've bought dT&T, here's a one shot to get you started!"?

Given that it (hopfully) will be hosted by FB on DriveThru it needs to be a complement to Free Rules www.drivethrurpg.com/product/54407/Tunnels--Trolls-Free-Rulebookthe Game Day rules are 99c but that all good too. Not focused so much on Solo. I know we all agree Solo is important, but this would be more GM assisted Solo. And yes a handout, so the players can then get the rules, and Supplement and do it again, and they tell five people and they tell five people. Something to help get this ball a roll'n It's not at all thought out so all your ideas and questions are very helpful... As a GM what would you need to kick off a quick game, no setup ready to go??? turn to page 1 and go, "You are all sitting in a tavern and a big Barbarian crashes to the floor, hit from behind..."

My brain was hamster-wheeling on this last night when I should have been sleeping. If this comes to pass, I'd like to do a set of introductory characters covering all the good kindred, a couple of illkin and maybe a playable monster to show that it can e done. Maybe a baker's dozen total. Thoughts?

As a GM what would you need to kick off a quick game..." One of the GMs that I look to for advice is John Four over on RoleplayingTips.com. He introduced me to the idea of 5 Room Dungeons. You can even get a copy of his book on the topic with lots and lots of examples just for signing up to this mailing list. I've long thought that this approach would work really well for PbP, due to PbPs slow format and folks dropping from the game over time. Take the format of a one-shot and run that as a PbP. Hit the end of the adventure arc before people start dropping. For those who want to continue, do another similar session. Here's a quick reference of the structure: - Room One: Entrance And Guardian
- Room Two: Puzzle Or Roleplaying Challenge
- Room Three: Trick or Setback
- Room Four: Climax, Big Battle or Conflict
- Room Five: Reward, Revelation, Plot Twist
As you can see, something like this could work really well as a single session introduction to any game. The above linked page goes into this structure at length and in detail offering all sorts of suggestions as to how to customize it for any particular purpose or setting. Perhaps we could consider using this sort of structure for the pamphlet and embellish it to include pregen characters and NPCs?

I'm thinking a brief essay and chart about balanced encounters. Not that every encounter needs to be balanced, but it would be good for folks new to the game to have an idea of what a single, poorly equipped, character run by a neophyte to TnT could expect to handle.
I saw a formula once for totalling player hit dice and using that as a guide to pitting monsters against them by their MR (collective or singly). I lost it, which I hadn't.

I do believe that's the thread. I saw that equation a few days ago and clipped it into my notes file.
