I was watching TV last night and caught part of The Corpse Bride. If you think about it, that movie is kinda sick and twisted if you look at it through a T&T lens.
A woman gets tricked into stealing her family's fortune to be with her love only to have him kill her on her wedding night and escape with her family's wealth. Her soul was tortured by these foul deeds and the unfairness of it all and so refused to leave until her TRUE husband came to claim her.
Then a young man practicing for his wedding speech entered her clearing and unwittingly asked for her hand in marriage. She then awoke as undead and claimed her new groom and took him deep into the underworld until he could trick her into bringing him back in order for her to "meet" his parents!
Then he leaves her waiting while he hurries away. This is full of all kinds of adventure ideas. Perhaps she tires of waiting and tracks him down to where the pc's are receiving an award for completing an adventure for a nobleman "the Grooms father" when the bride attacks once she realizes her new groom betrayed her "like her first love!" maybe the PC's beat her back and she fades away only to return with many of her friends from the underworld!
Worst yet what if the groom is taken and just like in the movie when the party shows up to finally put her down for good...he screams they are hurting his true love!

Putting a twist on D4caltrops "One of my favorite campaigns started with the inn catching on fire instead of someone walking in to hire them." suggestion.
You're at the inn, you hired the best room, ate and drank your fill and the next morning when you wake up you find you can't pay for any of it (broke or robbed) so YOU start the fire to escape and the adventure has you trying to earn money while keeping one step ahead of the local posse.

Welp, looks like someone beat me to it! I'm sure that's pretty common in a small hobby community: lots of regurgitation, cryptomnesia and cross-pollinisation. One way I've always used to get the creative juices flowing is to use rock and metal album covers as inspo. Roger Dean's YES album art is always a cool place to start.
Mine is a cross of Niven's Smoke Ring and Spelljammer.
